Mike McGee
Director
The Metropolitans
The Metropolitans are happy to have Mike McGee as our Director. Mike began singing a capella in 1985 at the ripe old age of 13 and went on to represent the Far Western District at the 1991 International Convention as the Baritone of Swingtime (his first quartet) as well as having been voted
Barbershopper of the Year by the Santa Barbara Chapter in 1989. Mike later sang with the District Medalist quartet The Phonics, where he met his lead, Bob Hartley. If you make it to a SPEBSQSA International competition, you'll see him singing Baritone in Metropolis . Mike is an accomplished choral director and, before he came to The Metropolitans , he directed the Pacific Sound Chorus in Southern California, and also served as Interim Director for The Masters of Harmony . In our first two contests with Mike directing The Metropolitans we validated his teaching and directing skills by taking home the first place trophy and becoming the 2005 Sunshine District Chorus Champion in the spring as well as winning the right to represent the Sunshine District at the International Barbershop Harmony Society Contest 4th of July week, 2006. Mike has performed as a backup singer for Michael McDonald as well as a substitute member of The Dapper Dans of Disneyland (California). He has also been employed as a Production Assistant on the HBO television series Resurrection Boulevard. Mike is currently a full time student and lives East of Tallahassee, FL with his wife Mandy. Hakkımda:
"The Metropolitans" have one goal, to produce the Highest Quality BarberShop Performance. Our entire organization exists for the quality of the "BarberShop Experience" which we believe creates an atmosphere of growth and fun. Our society is a "Singing Organization" first and while we will afterglow late into the night with anybody, we think the experience of "Ringing that Special Chord" makes our hard work worth while.
If we were to boil the "The Metropolitans" BarberShop Experience down to one phrase it would have to be "Individual Responsibility". This means each member is responsible to learn his music, come to meetings on-time and support the organization with his special talents.
The First Coast Metro chapter is a member of the Sunshine District of the Society for the Preservation of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, SPEBSQSA (The Barbershop Harmony Society). "The Metropolitans" is the "Show Chorus" that represents our chapter.
We are always looking for singers with whom we can share our love for music, friendship and fellowship. Our meetings are held every Monday night in the Fellowship Hall at the San Jose Chruch of Christ on San Jose North of University Boulevard at 7:00pm. If YOU are interested in joining the fun, stop any Metropolitan after the show and ask how you can enjoy this hobby we love so much. You can also hire "The Metropolitans", or one of our fine quartets, for your event by emailing our President, Dan Proctor.
