  • Bio

Mountain Park Old Time Band has been together for 3 years and consists of Johnny Gentry on Guitar, Dobro, Vocals, and sometimes Fiddle. Nancy Gentry is his wife and plays the Bass as well as lends vocals. Roger Stamper plays the Fiddle in our band as well as his own Irish band. C.T. Janney keeps us all in time with his excellent dancing and percussion on the washboard. Mark Handy, MD plays the banjo and also contributes some vocals. We are all friends who truly love playing Old Time Music. We are influenced by different genres and while helping to preserve the songs and musical heritage of Old Time Music, we also incorporate different musical influences including Country and Bluegrass. We have been very fortunate to be included as an opening act for the Carolina Chocolate Drops at the Blue Ridge Music Center and lately being invited to perform at Bristol Rhythm and Roots for 2009. We perform at local and regional square dances including the Alleghany Jubille in Sparta, NC, Sheffield Music Hall in Harmony, NC. Beulah Ruitan Club in Beulah, NC, Reddings Cafe in North Wilkesboro, NC, Patrick Springs VFW in Patrick Springs, VA, and the Mountain Music Jamboree in Glendale Springs, NC. We have also been very fortunate to perform at the Merry Go Round in Mt. Airy, NC as well as at the Autumn Leaves Festival in Mt. Airy. The Rex Theatre in Galax, Va also welcomed us for a live Friday nite concert for the Backroads segment on WBRF. We have been fortunate to play at Derek Davis's in downtown Galax, Va as well as at the Leaf and String Festival in Galax, VA. The band was invited to perform with the super Blue Grass group Big Country Bluegrass in February 2009 at the Mountain Music Jamoree. We just finished our third CD "Dancing on Rocky Island". Look for it at www.cdbaby.com and i tunes as well as catch any of us and we will be glad to put one in your cd player.
