Originally hailing from Dallas, Texas, (now based out of L.A.) the industrial/nu-metal band Nocturne is taking the country by storm. The band's CD "Guide To Extinction", has received rave reviews. InMusicWeTrust.com calls Nocturne's vocalist Lacey Conner "powerfully provacative". Young animals sold on street corners, parking lots, and along roadsides are kept in terrible conditions. These dogs, cats, and other animals often lack food or water. They are kept in overcrowded, dirty cages in extreme temperatures. Commonly purchased on impulse, they are too often in poor health and die of illness days after being purchased. It is impossible for officials to ensure the welfare of animals as well as the safety of consumers if such random sales practices are allowed. Fortunately, legislation (A.B. 1122) would prohibit the sale of puppies, kittens, and other animals on street corners and in parking lots. This bill has passed the Assembly and is now pending in a Senate committee.
TAKE ACTION Your state senator, Mark Leno, is on the committee that will consider A.B. 1122 tomorrow - Tuesday, July 7. Please contact Senator Leno at (916) 651-4003 today and urge support for this humane legislation. Calling is easy. Remember to leave your name and address so it is clear you are a constituent. The California State Assembly has passed three animal protection bills (A.B. 241/A.B. 242/A.B. 243) and now we need to push them through the Senate. Your state senator, Mark Leno, sits on the committee that will consider the bills this Tuesday.
A.B. 241 would crack down on cruel puppy mills by limiting the number of unsterilized dogs and cats a person can maintain. Puppy mills are large-scale commercial facilities that treat dogs like cash crops. A.B. 242 upgrades the penalties for being a spectator at a dogfight. The current dogfighting law in California is weak compared to other states and is ranked 43rd in the country. A.B. 243 strengthens the animal cruelty law in California by prohibiting convicted animal abusers from owning other animals in the future. Please urge Sen. Leno to vote 'YES' on these bills to improve animal protection laws in California. It is very important that your senator hear from constituents who care about humane treatment of animals.
