Bill Monroe, Tom Brad and Alice, Hazel Dickens, Red Molly, Dixie Chicks, Richard Greene, Andy Stein, Pastense, Uncle Earl, Wailing Jennys, the Faris Family, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Prairie Acre, The Wilders, Euphoria String Band, and sooooo many others we grew up listening to.
Sounds Like
Well, how to explain this. Our "sound" originates from all the musical influences we've been exposed to. Our father the farmer boy grew up with rock and heavy metal, while our city-slicker mother was raised on the sounds of sweet soul and blues. We were listening to their radio stations of choice for the first 6 or so years of our life and when we got old enough to choose our own music got some more variety. We eventually racked up a impressive list that included Classical, Opera, Pop, Swing, Celtic, Old-Time, Rock, Folk, Bluegrass, Jazz, and Appalachian as our audio influences. Our sound is a unique combination of all of these; a musical flavor bomb, if you will. Basically, we play what we like, and we like what we play.
Great News! The O'Shea Sisters recieved 2nd place at the Nebraska Bluegrass Festival Band Showcase in Lincoln!
Also, The O'Shea Sisters were named Vocal Ensemble Champions at the 2007 Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championships!
The O'Shea Sisters are an up and coming sister duo that perform Bluegrass, Folk, Old-Time, Celtic, and Acoustic music. They have been performing as a group since 2004.
Shannon, 16, has been playing the fiddle for over a decade now, first learning via the Suzuki Method from Dorothy Risebigg, later taking Bluegrass Fiddle lessons from the fiddler for the Topeka band "PASTENSE," Diane Gillenwater, and recently exploring her Celtic roots with Lauralynn Bodle of Alferd Packer Memorial String Band notoriety. She was honored to recieve Youth Fiddle Champion in 2006 at the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championships!
Erika, 18, took up the Guitar four years ago with Diane Gillenwater as her first teacher and continued on to learn from Rick Faris, guitar player for the award-winning family band "The Faris Family."
The O'Shea Sisters now play out as much as they can, listen to as many kinds of music as possible, and have recently even started writing their own songs. Their music related studies and travels have led them to festivals, camps, and jams to states all over the Midwest including Colorado, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, and (of course) all over their home state of Kansas.
This page will be periodically updated with dates and locations of performances and other musically related information.
