HOPE FOR A CURE CONTINUES TO GROW

"A CAN OF STEM CELLS" was recorded on 03/22/09 (Freddie passed on 04/02/09, at home). It was the last time he was recorded or photographed. He'd spent some time at Methodist Hospital, but seemed to be doing well. He was still hopeful and waiting for a cure. He was always a joker, too.

THE TEXAS LEGEND. They call Freddie Everett "The Texas Legend," "The Texas Hendrix," and sometimes locally, "Our Houston Legend." A true legend he is, as few have the ability to endlessly ad-lib lightning fast riffs and power cords the way he could, but it's the way he connected with his audiences that really set him apart. He'd bring his audience into the performance, calling people by name from the stage or going out into the audience to perform one of his signature moves, such as using any object available as a slide. If he met you one time, he'd remember your name and refer to you as a friend. The list of celebrities he knew is nearly endless. He performed with or opened for many, many greats, such as Sammy Hegar, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper (where he met his wife Annette), Bo Diddley (who'd visit Freddie, whenever he was in town), Double Trouble (Stevie Ray's band), and many more. He was a world class guitar player who had just signed with SONY and was about to step out onto the world stage, starting with a tour of Europe, when ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease took away his ability to play. He never got the chance to record at SONY's studio. ALS is a disease which affects the motor neurons and little by little, takes away the ability to use all voluntary muscles, including those used for speaking, eating, and breathing. In 2008, he became dependent on a ventilator and feeding tube to stay alive, and was entirely wheelchair bound. Thanks to his eye-tracking computer (ERICA), he was able to communicate, use the internet, and continue to make music. His battle with ALS ended in the early hours of 04/02/09, but his legacy will live on forever. We love you Freddie. You're rockin' with the angels now.

I made the trip from Maryland for the funeral and I am SO glad I did. It was almost like one of his shows. Very emotional, but wonderful as well. I miss Freddie so much it hurts. He was the soundtrack to my life for a lot of years.

His Legacy is eternal, the legend lives on!

You’ve struck a chord inside my heart. Your voice remains and all that is left are those wonderful memories you’ve left behind. Thank you, Freddie, for believing in me all these years, when I wouldn’t, couldn’t believe in myself. To lose you is to give back a precious gift to God. He made you, molded you, created your unique style of creativity. God shared your with us on earth, and now He has called you home to be with Him once more. My heart bleeds, my eyes pour like falling rain just to hear your sweet voice once more. Like a moth to a flame, you drew me close as if I was some part of true family to you and for that, I call you my family.

Your life, it was worth the fight. The struggle, it was already won. We prayed together time and again for a miracle, and the miracle only waited on the other side. THANK GOD for you, Freddie! THANK GOD for you! I’m gonna miss you awfully, yet the memory keeps you close. It gives me ultimate joy to know you are free from bondage, from that ugly dark plague of disease. So, we may cry for your freedom, but you sang for freedom and it finally came. I no longer cry for your freedom, but now I sing with joyful tears. Your FREE!

Forever, you are burned in my memory.. Love always, Marsha

my song/poem for freddie

TEXAS LEGEND MAN

written by Casey Stanley

Rock n roll that is what he did everynight,
always rockin the house and in the spot light.

He could play that mean guitar like no one eles,
always giving his all and never leaves anything on the shelf.

He is the baddest musician that I've ever seen,
just listen to his music, you'll know what I mean.

I'm talking about the Texas Legend Man,
When I say Freddie, you know I'm talking about the Freddie Everett Band,
He's the Texas Legend Man.

Always ripping it up on the stage,
always giving his all and leaving us in amaze.

He could do a rock n roll show like nobody eles,
always giving his all and never leaves nothing on that shelf.

He is the greatest musician that I've ever seen,
if you have seen a Freddie Everett show,
you know what I mean.

I'm talking about the Texas Legend Man,
when I say Freddie, you know I'm talking about the Freddie Everett Band,
He' the Texas Legend Man.

He wil always be the Texas Legend Man,
he always gave the best that he can,
from Jimi to the Miler Band, from Top to Stevie Ray,
all I can say is he will always rock.

I'm talking about the Texas Legend Man,
when I say Freddie, you know I'm talking about the Freddie Everett Band,
He's the Texas Legend Man.

Rock on Freddie.
Angela
