InfluencesThe performers represent many different cultures and political approaches. They express their concerns and hopes about a wide variety of humanitarian issues, but also sing about love and the lighter side of life -- typically with lots of audience participation. A Strong Tradition: The Peoples' Voice Cafe has its roots in a time-honored tradition combining culture with political activity. Our Cafe was founded in 1979 by members of Songs of Freedom and Struggle (now a national organization known as the People's Music Network for Songs of Freedom and Struggle). Both PMN and our Cafe are dedicated to creating, supporting, promoting and performing progressive music and culture. The Cafe is a not-for-profit collective that is not affiliated with any political or religious organization.

New York Lost © is a documentary about the loss of what makes New York, New York. Developers are destroying it's unique stores, ethnic neighborhoods, and character while replacing it with chain stores that all look alike and glass condos. At risk is the exciting and diverse community that brings so many to New York, and what makes New York the world center of art, communications, finance and fashion. Is New York turning into a gated community and giant shopping mall? Is it fair to ask whether all of this change is a good thing? Will developers kill the goose that laid the golden egg? Is the spirit of neighborliness dead? I interviewed several New Yorkers from the founder of the Guardian Angels, Curtis Sliwa to an old time Fulton Fish Market docker worker. I think you will be fascinated with what they have to say. The film will be released in Mid November 2007 on DVD by Request. Visit www.myspace.com/newyorklost to view the film for a limited time.

The Peoples' Voice Cafe has been a venue for truly alternative music since 1979, but it needs your support to survive and flourish. If you agree with the mission, then please come to the shows, become a member, make a donation, or volunteer to help out. Enough said. Just do it!
