Hailing in from Decatur, Georgia, this Michigan born songbird developed an appreciation for REAL music at the tender age of 6! While most kids were growing up playing with toys and playing “hide and seek”, P.E.JAY was busy competing in neighborhood and elementary/middle school talent shows. After that, came the high school choir, the church choir and finally, a failed attempt to be signed to Warner Brothers Records in the early 80’s. This rejection took its’ toll on P.E.JAY’s musical dreams, but little would she realize that 20 years later, her desire to share her love for music with the world would be resurrected. It wasn’t until attending a local karaoke function in 2004 that this songbird would begin chirping again. When the crowd started cheering and clapping during her performance of Faith Evan's "Kissing You" (Waiting to Exhale Soundtrack), P.E.JAY realized once again her true passion in life....... TO SING! P.E..JAY will be the NEW songstress of this era without any doubt. It is quite obvious that entry into the music industry has become highly unattainable for truly gifted artists, who genuinely manifest passion for singing about the good and positive things in the world today. It seems like whenever you turn on the radio these days, good music is so hard to find. Could it be because today’s artists, and music exec’s alike, are in the business for the sole purpose of obtaining fame and fortune rather than producing “quality” music? It wasn't hard to realize at The 2008 Grammy’s, that within the industry today, most artists are only considered as a “product” and that the record labels are no longer interested in developing and maintaining TRUE recording artist icons like; Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson or Chaka Khan. This is very disappointing to new artists, like P.E.JAY, who maintains a sincere passion for singing good music. A change will come someday and the true icons of real music, new and old alike will once again dominate the music world. What is a "true" artist one might ask? A true artist is someone who has the ability to interpret a story through song which ultimately brings the listener in to a point where they cannot only relate to the story, but feel the passion coming through the voice of the artist. While listening, they may find themselves moved emotionally and physically which will ultimately capture the listener for the entire duration of the song leaving them breathless. A "true" artist is moved by having this kind of power over the listener, NOT for achieving fame and fortune....even though the later is greatly appreciated and is seen as a blessing from God. A "true" artist is someone who respects and loves the true essence of music and who prefers to use it in a positive way for the purpose of spiritual and emotional uplifting. If you want proof of this, just listen to the heartfelt lyrics in P.E.JAY’s first original self-written composition, “GET IT RIGHT”. This song was written AND sung straight from P.E.JAY's heart to her husband of 9 years, Donovan.****************************************************** P.E.JAY ELABORATES “Real music is supposed to be about love, peace and world happiness…not disrespecting one another, singing about sexing someone's man or woman, bragging about our fame & fortune and bragging about how many times we’ve been shot and have lived to tell about it. This is not the kind of music I want my children to look up to someday. When I first sat down with the beautiful track for “Get it Right, in which my cousin T-FRESH had composed and written for to me, I had no idea what I wanted to write about. I prayed about it and ultimately God led me to use my heart and to write about what was going on in my life at the time. At that moment, I realized that there was so much I wanted to tell my husband and the world about the love residing within my heart through this song! Over the years, I had confessed to a few of my close family and friends (and with poor judgement, some associates) about some personal problems I was dealing with in my marriage. I found out that many of them had encountered or were also dealing with the some of same problems (some MUCH worse than mine). This alone made me realize that I needed to write this song not only for self therapy, but for others dealing with marital strife. So...not ONLY was this song written to relay a message to my husband, but also for someone who needed it to serve as a reminder to their love what marriage truly represents and to reaffirm the sanctity of their marital vows. The Bible tells us that the vow of marriage must not be broken because it is a promise made between yourself and your spouse, before God, the moment you speak the phrase “I do”. The devil is so busy these days breaking up strong marriages over the tiniest things you could ever imagine possible! This song serves as a wonderful message to those who are considering giving up on their marriages without a fight. I DO realize that there are some exceptions, but in most situations, the bad can be turned into good with prayer and faith. I remember the first time my husband heard the recording of “Get it right” at the recording studio. He teared up (although he won't admit it and I have witnesses- LOL) and it was at that moment, I realized that my writing the lyrics to the song was not done in vain. I knew that I was heading in the right direction. Based upon this, I decided to develop my entire CD surrounding my personal life experiences and other situations that many of us could relate to. I’m no different from the typical girl next door. I've dealt with backstabbers, haters, home wreckers and people with very low self esteem who prey on people like me so that we can have our spirit and drive broken and feel just as useless as they do (CHECK OUT P.E.JAY'S BLOGS AT WWW.THOUGHTS.COM/PEJAY ). We have all faced the same problems during our life span and some have undeniably been much worse off than others. I want to sing about the positive side of everything that is bad in life because there is always something good on the other side of everything that is bad and evil. As one of God’s many messenger in music, I know that I was blessed with this talent for that reason alone. I want to help all of my brothers and sisters in the world realize that when they are down and out, praying to the Lord above will help them to find peace if they just believe it in their hearts to be true.” ****************************************************************Along the way in her rising career, P.E.JAY has had the pleasure of performing on-stage with several of the most incredible artists in the music industry to include; Kia Hamm (Independent R&B /Neo-Soul Artist from CA), Dre Allen (THE Ghetto Rockstar & former member of the Certified Gold 80’s R&B quartet, “IV Example”, now Independent Artist on self owned label, MoveMakers Entertainment), Dawn Robinson (former member of the hot quartet, En’Vogue and the original female vocalist for Lucy Pearl), Mary G ( a highly respected and famed Chitlin’ Circuit Diva Performer Extraordinaire) and a host of others. P.E.JAY has competed in several Atlanta talent shows and has also participated in several charitable events, something that she loves to do in her spare time. P.E.JAY is also currently assisting several local artists with their own musical projects yet of course, her main focus is completing her own musical production entitled, “The Songstress- Volume I” which was slated for completion in the summer of 2008, but will more than likely be delayed due to her compelling determination to finish college and received her degree in Business Management. ****************************************************************P.E.JAY STATES, “Unlike many artists in the industry, who did not either have time or take advantage of the opportunity to pursue a college degree so that they would have something to fall back WHEN they became (or become) a “has been” in the industry, I want to make sure that I am fundamentally prepared for life after the spotlight has dimmed on me. I’m not being critical towards any other artists or being negative about my own future success. I simply call it being a REALIST and making sure that my future is secure for me, my husband and my future little ones.” The youngest of 11 children, P.E.JAY has been exposed to music all of her life and has her family to be thankful for. “Not a day went by was there not music being played in our home. My dad, who was a master guitar player in his early years, was always blasting the blues from upstairs while Mom was playing gospel & classic soul music in the kitchen as she prepared dinner for me and my 10 brothers and sisters. Through my brothers and sisters, I developed a real love and appreciation for REAL music as performed by MOTOWN and other recording label artists such as; the Barkays, Switch, Cameo, Rufus and Chaka Khan, The Ohio Players and many other artists from the 50's through the 80's. I'd like to say to my siblings, Donna M. Vickers, Norma J. Polk, Terri L. Vickers, Laurie A. Jones, Barbara J. Hurtt, Glenda F. Perkins, Belinda K. Vickers , Marvin D. Vickers, Ronnie E. Vickers, and Willie J. Vickers....thank you for passing your love of music off on me throughout the first 18 years of my life. Look what you have created and I hope that you are all proud of your baby sis. I love you all to pieces. Also, I'd like to give a very special thanks to GOD, my Lord and my Savior, for granting me with the gift of voice and creativity. Without Him, NONE of this would be possible. I want to thank my vocal coach, Tammy Allen, for helping me to climb musical mountains that I never thought I would be able to climb. Tammy, when I came to you with the Beyonce track "Listen", we BOTH had VERY little faith that I would be able to perform this song for an upcoming competition, but with your instruction, encouragement and faith and my drive and determination to do something "different" from the rest of the contestants, I succeeded.
