"I walked in just as Patrick Breiner blew a startling, corkscrewing, unaccompanied improvisation on tenor sax that lasted for minutes without a break. It was an impressive feat... and it served notice that Breiner is a force to be reckoned with." - Dean Robbins, The Daily Page
"Patrick Breiner, perhaps inspired by his instrument's great avatar, launched into a solo whose ferocious intensity left the audience whooping with approval." - Richard Ryan, All About Jazz
I'm Patrick Breiner. I play Saxophone and Clarinet. I just moved to Madison, Wisconsin after 6 years in NYC. My nomadic tendencies lead me back to the East Coast several times a year.
I have a solo saxophone project. It's called Vartan Mamigonian. I just released an album recorded in a beautiful church in Queens. You can buy it here or from CD Baby. Some samples above. Here's what people are saying about it:
"Sensitive at times, agonizing at others... and the result is excellent." - Stef at the Free Jazz Blog
"Virtuosic saxophone stylings a la post-minimalism." - In2itive Music, Madison, WI
This great band, NOOK, just released an album. I'm on it. It rules. Coincidence? I think not. Get it here.
I'm also in a bunch of bands. In New York: Billy Hart's "Academy," Myk Freedman Suit, Myk Freedman's (Whistle Sound) Band, Basement Magic, Bing and Ruth, and NOOK. In Madison: The New Breed Quintet, ManMouth (a duo with bassoonist Cyrus Roat), and my own trio featuring John Christensen and Michael Brenneis. Check us out.
Listen to our song "Candyman" and your song "But I've Never Been To Whitehall" at the same time. They are like twins separated at birth, and raised by different kinds of animals.
you are booked. holy smokes. the Spike Hill thing is booked too. Did you get my text message(s)? My phone is on the verge of breaking and has been for a while now. Text messages work when they feel up to it and i can only charge my phone sometimes when it's turned off. Lemme know the details when you know the details.
yo pat, hope the move went well. just got your cd in the mail. Thanks for that. I'm guest DJing a radio show in Kansas City next week and fully intend on throwing it in as many ears as possible. Anyways. Miss you around here. Things just aint the same...
