Thanks so much, Andy, the first link doesn't work for me but Caruso did, which he also sang beautifully at the Düsseldorf concert almost one year later.
Don't worry, Emily, nobody will strangle you for speaking out your view about the presentation in Japan. Tastes differ, and that's fine. And every country or nation have their own cultural background. I enjoyed the Ode an die Freude albeit it was a bit fast and in a higher pitch than usual, but the arrangement to me was beautiful, very special, and emotional, not only because of Paul who did a great job but also because of the excellent chorus. Goosebumps!
My two cents! I appreciate the huge effort of the choir in singing "Ode to Joy". They did a wonderful job of singing and it looked as if they were all giving it all they had. It was rather fast and I couldn't tell if it was hard for Paul to sing that fast or not. What I appreciate is the fact that we fans can follow along so closely to see what Paul and Julz are up to. So, thanks for the posting.
To dear Paul....I have never heard that it was a sin to be a lousy gift wrapper. lol One cannot do EVERYTHING well. We all know your fortee. By the way, I have had so many laughs over the years when German articles are translated to English. We can get some very odd viewpoints of our favorite singer. Something is lost in translation......sometimes something is added, too. So, if the articles make you more sexy, more power to the Germans. ha ha
Wouldn't it be fun to have Julz write some articles for the Germans. They would get a double translation and think of the fun we could have with that. And, by the way, it has been a long time since Julz gave the fans the gift of one of her beautiful descriptive blogs.
Thanks Hans for uploading the clips. As I said on Twitter, I find these Japanese things very strange. Maybe I'm too European. Yes folks, hit me, strangle me, but I didn't like the performance of Ode To Joy. Weird arrangement, much too fast and I could hardly understand a word Paul was singing. I know it's a difficult song and to sing in a foreign language is even more difficult. But Paul can do this song much better. Just my 2 cents. ;-)
My big pleasure! As Chris said watching Paul's 'Ode to Joy' was a great way of celebrating & starting 2010. As watching, I couldn't stop hoping to watch the whole version of 'Ode to Joy' by Paul this year end. I would fly anywhere it might be. :)
