Phoenix (Vocals, Guitar) began his career as a singer/songwriter after a year-long horseback journey from Montana to Mexico. His passionate and soulful vocals evolved out of the joy and pain of his first love: the blues. His musical influences are as diverse as the list of poets, songwriters and authors who impacted his own songwriting. Phoenix is an evocative, poignant lyricist with an uplifting message of unity. He is a warrior for peace, dedicated to social justice and the protection of wild places. He moved to the Bay area in 2005 where he formed Afterbuffalo.
Luke Thomas (Guitar, Backing Vocals) started his musical training at 6 years old with the piano, then the drums, and has been playing guitar since his early teen years. As a fan and student of a wide variety of music, he began playing blues, soul, and rock music before attending college at the University of Wisconsin to study jazz guitar. After graduation, Luke relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area seeking meaning and opportunity. A master of many musical styles, Luke's passionate and inspired expression reveals itself through his atmospheric jazz-inspired rhythm playing, tasteful dynamic intensity, and soaring lead work.
Angeline Saris (Bass) began her career as a bass player in the San Francisco Bay Are shortly after graduating from UC Berkeley. Leaving behind a career in law, she followed her passion and began turning what had always been her hobby into a profession. Now in less than three years, Angeline has become one of the Bay's busiest bassists. From jazz to speed-metal, R&B to rock, cuban to hip-hop, and flamenco to rockabilly, Angeline has done it all.
Rob Rhodes (Drums) is originally from Oakland CA, and has been a drummer in the San Francisco bay area for over 20 years. A master of many musical styles, Rob has logged thousands of gigs and toured around the world making music and charming audiences with his grooves, punctuality, and bright smile.

In the fall of 1999, Phoenix set out from Livingston, Montana with his two horses and his dog into the Rocky Mountain wilderness in search of meaning. During his year-long journey south, he found a spiritual connection with the land and the people who live in harmony with it. He returned with a new-found purpose, and an allegiance and responsibility towards the people and places that healed him and gave him hope.
AfterBuffalo is a statement that in the blink of an eye, a mere handful of generations, the world has been changed forever. It is a name for our current condition, how humans have treated the earth and each other. It demands accountability, and demonstrates not only our ability to destroy, but our power to create with purpose, hope and meaning. It is a reminder that we can find new ways to connect, just as we did before the changes came.
In his latest musical incarnation, singer/songwriter Phoenix continues his artistic journey from the urban wilderness of New York City to California's San Francisco Bay Area. AfterBuffalo is a melding of old and new, bringing together unique musicians from very different backgrounds. The result is an expression of both diversity and unity, and a celebration of the human experience. It is a sound that is honest and original, spanning an eclectic musical landscape that transcends genre.
