About me: My name is Mike and I currently own Platinum Arts LLC located at www.PlatinumArts.Net and Platinum Arts Kids! located at www.sandboxgamemaker.com
At the Platinum Arts Kids! site you can download for free a game that is intended to make it as easy as possible for people to design their own games. It features being able to create while you play! Over the summer it was used by Mildred Elley college in a course I taught to kids 10-17 about making computer games. It was a big hit and the kids had a blast so check it out!
I'm also a Child Care Site Director at an Elementary School. If you check my video it shows off some of my previous work that I've done as a part of Platinum Arts. Also check out www.IGF.com/Video and watch about 6:30 in to see my team and I receiving the award for Best Doom 3 Mod of the Year. If you'd like to come in and chat with us go to http://doom3coop.com/irc.php Take care and enjoy!
I was thinking about having the character like a sandbox and expand what you into but class base would actually be a better idea, especially since it will promote teamwork. Now how are you thinking of setting this game up, server side leveling or client side?
I think a stand alone LMS would be great, but would it still take place in the doom universe or start from scratch? Also one of the biggest things I wanted in LMS was an rpg perk system. I don't know if you ever heard of Brainbread but it's a mod for HL1 that was basically you running around a map that's infested with zombies while you're completing objectives. Objectives and killing zombies would give you experience and there were 3 attributes to level. This was all kept server side though.
Adding an rpg system to a game where you just mindlessly run around killing everything made the game really fun to play and kept people playing for a long time. Also another great idea would be after x amount of kills the player is rewarded with a weapon upgrade token where they can "level" up their weapon of choice making it stronger/or even giving them a new weapon, ex shotgun upgrades into db shotgun.
I didn't really want to make this post into a rant but whatever haha. I'm just giving some input from the fans. Basically rpg perks=lot of replay value and fun.

Hey there. Yeah, I saw that sandbox went beta, but didn't have a chance to check it out until today, actually. I liked it, and I've heard about that engine before, being used for something or other.
It's a really neat proof-of-concept so far, and I think with a little more polish and kid-friendliness, it'd really be a winner. Like Garry's Mod, but with geometry, very neat.
well life has been... interesting the past few months to say the least :) my grades have been low this semester but i'm working my ass off to get them back up in order to keep my admission to college (i'm going to cal poly.)
actually i've been working on an "interactive education" program that teaches trigonometry as part of a school science class. it's really bad though. haha
I'll definitely drop by sometime! i hate to admit it but i miss some of those guys.
