"With the sparkling lilt in Qristina Bachand's fiddling and the solid accompaniment of her brother Quinn's guitar, you'd be forgiven for thinking the Victoria, B.C., siblings grew up playing Celtic music from the time they first cracked open their eyes." -Sandy MacDonald, Penguin Eggs (January 2008)
This young brother and sister duo have been receiving rave reviews from audiences all the way from Vancouver Island to Cape Breton Island and from as far away as Scotland, Ireland and Spain! Be sure to catch this dynamic duo when they perform at 2009 Celtic Colours International Festival in Cape Breton this Fall!
Born and raised in Victoria, BC, Canada, Qristina and Quinn come from a family with a strong musical heritage that has deep roots in France and Northern Spain. Individually, they are exceptional instrumentalists, combined, their spirit of spontaneous fun emerges and the jigs, reels & fiddle tunes heat up! Qristina and Quinn consistently deliver a spirited performance that features their enthusiasm and love of Celtic music.
Qristina Bachand is quickly carving out a name for herself in the fiddle world as a solid and versatile fiddler. She is an expressive fiddler with a unique style that is both edgy and smooth. She has been featured at numerous concert venues, folk clubs and festivals across Canada. Qristina's musical journey began with Suzuki Violin lessons at the age of 6. She soon took an interest in folk fiddle, joining Calvin Cairns' and Daniel Lapp's fiddle ensembles. Qristina has received many fiddle awards and scholarships to study with a wide variety of international fiddlers. At the young age of 18, Qristina is brimming with fresh energy and musicality!
Incredibly talented and blessed with an acute ear and an innate sense of rhythm 13 year old Quinn Bachand is rapidly establishing himself as a gifted guitar player and sought after accompanist. Quinn has the unique ability to bring out the best in each tune. A focused and powerful player, he is a well rounded and versatile musician, as comfortable playing Celtic guitar as he is playing Gypsy Jazz, classical violin, folk fiddle or picking a tune on his Irish tenor banjo. Quinn has had the opportunity to accompany such greats as Liz Carroll, Buddy MacMaster and Ashley MacIsaac. Quinn is set to accompany acclaimed fiddler Ashley MacIsaac again at the 2009 Edmonton Folk Festival and at 2009 Celtic Colours Festival.
Qristina & Quinn have performed across Canada, from Vancouver Island to Cape Breton Island - at such varied venues as the Rankin Family owned Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, Cape Breton, the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, B.C. and Toronto's Berkeley Church.Qristina & Quinn have also performed at folk festivals in Canada and Europe including the Vancouver Island Music Fest, the Islands Folk Festival, 2008 & 2009 Vancouver Celticfest, the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, Speyfest (Scotland) and the Feakle Traditional Music Festival (Ireland).
