RICEMAGNET was formed in 1999 in Canada and is presently based in Hong Kong and Taipei. Crossing continents, the band's sound has been accordingly influenced by a range of alternative/indie/rock artists, with the resulting sound a blend of Red Hot Chili Peppers meets Wu Bai & China Blue.
The new release of RICEMAGNET's 2007 "Never Let Go" album is a showcase of the band's personal and intimate style; accompanied by emotion driven lyrics, the songs display a quiet but raw strength.
Review from Beats Magazine, November 2007:
"RICEMAGNET's new album, Never Let Go, is a strong rock effort from top to bottom. Mixing Mandarin and English lyrics, this Taipei / Hong Kong based band specializes in slower alternative rock, with a sound that resembles early 90s styled Red Hot Chili Peppers. "These Painful Words", the best track on the album, is a five minute anthem with sharp vocals and even sharper guitar. Well worth a listen" - Ben Sin
Album release shows have taken place at several noted indie venues in both Taipei and Hong Kong, with RICEMAGNET headlining nights at the UnderWorld, and The Living Room in Taipei, and the Fringe Club in Hong Kong. Many thanks to all those who came to the shows! The complete rundown from the The Living Room and The Riverside gigs can be rewatched on our YouTube channel.
