His book PROSE 1997 - 2008 is now available
This volume contains all of Rehan Qayoom's prose works from 1997 through 2008, including many little-known essays that exemplify his range, wit, depth, and wisdom. The book incorporates the complete text of his first separately published prose book, Seeking Betjeman Country, including 26 separate essays, reviews, introductions, and lectures. 2 reviews that were commissioned, but which the magazines never printed, appear here for the first time.
The variety of style and subject in this book is almost inexhaustible. Qayoom writes about the imaginary mirrors that everyone carries through life; Keats, Byron, English and Urdu poetry; and politics and religion. The introduction places the essays in biographical and historical context, and the extensive textual notes and bibliography explain obscure contemporary references. He lives in London surrounded by books.
I have no doubt that you qualify as an extremely intelligent, very good, wise and talented poet. Your excellent poetry in English and Urdu indicates that God has bestowed a very good understanding of subject to you. I am amazed at how you quote classic poets and use the right verses at the right times and imbue them with your rich and affluent sentiments. I have become an admirer of your poetry. An obviously sincere poet.
Energetic and interesting.

You've got to be one of the kindest around, dear Rehan.
I must admit that I am very honored to be even thought of in a reference to such accompanying texts as in your review! And, well, the way you put words...it makes sense to me. So, avec mon coeur, Merci.
I updated the (p)Review blog with your blog and linked to your page (with your vast knowlege and ability to construct puzzles of poetic logic, I am awaiting your website!! ;) Such a great wealth of knowlege and accomplishment should be outlined for others to comprehend, a map to follow so to speak.
I am looking forward to learning more from/of you, following your progress and your views of the world in general, as usual. Again, thank you for your insight and careful attention. It means a great deal to me.
Yours,
Hollace

O, tell me, do!
What would I do
without one who
possessed such a lashing tongue
to save me from my freedom
of being only a woman?
(You came to my blog-commentaire rescue, merci. there are some men who see a strong feminine soul as competition whereas you, sweet Rehan, see beauty and recognition of the Divine, alongside yourself. This places you in a beautiful place, on earth, in Heaven and in others' hearts, hand-in-hand wherever you may find yourself with them.)
I re-read your first blog comment about 6x and, well, like most of your comments, it lead me into a good 10 hours of literary exploration and some of your references even lead me to dreams.
At first, I thought your entire comment was siting Plath and thus would have to consider myself having a much greater memory than I thought I had... and also a plagiarist.
My words between hers stand out like a juvenile, her vocabulary was impeccable. However, I am rather moved by those who do find the meaning in what I wish to say aside from my limited wordings. I think a distinct sensation that pulsed down my spine and back up again after listening to too many academics use too many words to describe the same thing - all in a battle of syllables as sucker-punches and pronouncing their t's further and further away from the more widely used d's that transmogrified utter into udder, etc. (even though I do this too)...breathing...well, I think listening to this thwarted my own fall into the jargon-pool as I sought to swim with those in the lake, the dirty pond with lily-pads, the ocean, the stream, the cesspool or even the quicksand, perhaps!
Sometimes, I wish we would all just shut up and use sign language, use our eyes, our honesty and our lips and breathing, our embrace. I wish.
Again, thank you for pushing my mind beyond what I thought it capable among many other things. You are forever treasured.

Can I forward a link to you so that you can have it, please?? There should be Chapters 1-13 (the book) and then Chapters 14-18 (appendices A-E)
Sorry, technical difficulties here in the Parisian suburbs.
You're so lovely, so kind and so full of love for this obsessive art of ours!
So grateful for you, your existence, your support, your input and more importantly, your own poetry resounding in my ears :)
with Love,
Hollace
