Baltimore has had little to nothing at all to smile about lately. A high crime rate, major drama surrounding the Hip-Hop scene, and poor economic opportunities not withstanding. Charm city has recently found one of its own to rally behind, his name is Real Early. Real Early is a product of his environment. That’s not a testament to the streets of Baltimore, Maryland, which groomed him into the MC that he is today. Rather, it’s walking the beaten path of label politics and industry buffoonery that has kept the lyricist overtly aware of his surroundings. On the surface, one might assume that Real Early is another slick, arrogant, exaggerated rapper. Yet, one listen to any of his tracks will demonstrate his ability to deliver an intelligent and precise flow. Whether it’s slang, beats or wardrobe, gimmicks run unchecked in Hip-Hop. But while rappers rely on marketing schemes, Baltimore, Maryland's Real Early prefers to rely on a unpredicted flow, witty punchlines along with aggressive content. The clever side shines through songs like, “Look At Me” where he spits "Shorty ate my section like assistant living/.The problem with a gimmick is it burns out and becomes boring as quickly as it’s invented. The good thing for Real Early is that skills never go out of style. And if more of the labels focused less on fluff and more on substance, the industry as a whole would be better off. Follow a leader. As long as he continues to deliver, R.E. will have no trouble living up to his moniker.
R.E, originally named Devin Damon was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Resided on the west side of the city but it wasn't until he moved to the east, when his life had really begun. At Age 11, He became a huge fan
of basketball and played for numerous teams from schools to recreation centers. His favorite position was shooting guard but the coach would always put him at the point, stating that he knew how to control the ball, the game, and he was a leader. Beyond the court, Devin was still a normal kid, running the streets, hanging on corners, and chasing the girls. Making music never crossed his mind.Although Watching others from around the way freestyle and listening to 90's hiphop, Devin still didn't find any inspiration to do so. He started to get into rhyming at age 13. Devin still played basketball but during free time, while hanging with his friends, someone would just bust out a rhyme. They all would go back and forth, cyphering, even if someone couldn't rhyme they still tried! It was fun and games during the time but people thought that Devin could really rap! After being told that he could numerous times, of course like any other person, Re started to pursue the music. Not too long after that, Re had the whole neighborhood and whoever he encountered feeling his rhymes. Gaining bragging rights from battling others in school and around the neighborhood, people knew it wouldn't be long after, that Real Early would really get on his grind.
