Books
History of the Women's Army Corps:
The most important book on the Women's Army Corps in World War II is Mattie E. Treadwell's The Women s Army Corps (1954), part of the United States Army in World War II series published by the U.S. Army Center of Military History.
Col. Bettie J. Morden's The Women s Army Corps, 1945-1978, contains an excellent introductory chapter on Army women in World War II.
Many WACs wrote of their World War II experiences, and these memoirs make extremely informative and entertaining reading.
These include:
Maj Charity Adams Earley- One Woman's Army: A Black Officer Remembers the WAC (1989);One Woman's Army describes in candid detail how Charity Adams Earley and a group of committed African American women "rode point" in World War II in the battle to serve their country.
The Women's Army Corps Veterans Association, and the Daughters of Pallas Athene- Cameo Recollections of Women's Army Corps Veterans (1983);
Margaret Flint- Dress Right, Dress: The Autobiography of a WAC (1943).
Ms. Doris Weatherford- American Women and World War II (1990). Relying primarily on published sources, especially in the popular press, the author, a historian and freelance writer, focuses on the war's liberating effect on women. Although aware of the inequities women faced, especially in the military, Weatherford describes how women benefited from their wartime experiences.
In addition we have two recommended books concerning the Vietnam era:
Major General Jeanne Holm, USAF (Ret.), wrote "Women in the Military: An Unfinished Revolution", Presidio Press, Novato, California, 1992. MG Holm served as director of Women in the Air Force between 1965 and 1973. This classic work on women in the armed forces is a history of issues, major players and policy development concerning women's role in and with the military and women's gradual integration into tradition-bound military institutions and culture.

Thank you so much for being apart of our humble little network, My name is Pastor Frank Michael, Blessed Love- May you find serenity and tranquility in a world you may not always understand. May the pain you have known and the conflict you have experienced give you the strength to walk through life facing each new situation with courage and optimism. Always know that there are those whose love and understanding will always be there, even when you feel most alone. May you discover enough goodness in others to believe in a world of peace. May a kind word, a reassuring touch, and a warm smile be yours every day of your life, and may you give these gifts as well as receive them. Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending. Teach love to those who hate, and let that love embrace you as you go out into the world. May the teachings of those you admire become part of you, so that you may call upon them. Remember, those whose lives you have touched and whose have touched yours are always a part of you, even if the encounters were less than you would have wished. It is the content of the encounter that is more important than the form. May you not become too concerned with material matters, but instead place immeasurable value on the goodness in your heart. Find time each day to see beauty and love in the world around you. Realize that each person has limitless abilities, but each of us is different in our own way. What you feel you lack in the present may become one of your strengths in the future. May you see your future as one filled with promise and possibility. Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience. May you find enough inner strength to determine your own worth by yourself, and not be dependent on an others judgment of your accomplishments. May you always feel loved. I am honored to call you my friend!
I know most Honor Our Fallen on the last Monday in May... but in our home May 30th was the day in which we Honored them. My dad was a WWII Veteran... and just because those in Congress took it upon themselves to change the date to make Memorial Day into a three-day weekend... made know difference to my dad. They could change it to whatever they wanted... but for him... Memorial Day would always be May 30th. And in being his daughter and being like-minded as him in so many ways... and in having this day always be the day in which we Honored Our Fallen. I have continued to do so even though he has been gone longer than my heart and mind wishes to dwell. He lays beside my brother... both receiving flowers on the 30th of May in Honor of their service.
To the men and women who gave their all... who believed in something greater than self... and sacrificed so others may be free... to live free... and all that entails. I Honor you this day and remember all that is great in the country in which I live because you made it possible for me to live it.
BROTHER, I THANK YOU AND I GIVE THANKS FOR ALL OUR MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE SERVED OUR COUNTRY AND THEIR FAMILIES ALIKE. . WE WHO HAVE FORMED THIS BOND OF BROTHERHOOD. AND SPENT THE YEARS,AND SPILLED OUR BLOOD TOGETHER WILL ALL WAYS SHARE A SPECIAL BOND THAT NO OTHER CAN TRULEY UNDERSTAND. SO TODAY I SAY THANK YOU AND I HONOR YOU. PEACE PASTOR ZIG FOMER U.S. ARMY FT.STEWART GA. HHC 3RD 7TH INF
Motherhood is a precious and fragile as the fragile butterfly wings. It's time is so short. Treat it lovingly and reverently, or it will disappear as the beautiful butterfly does. Protect it and nurture it allowing it to bless others ... Instead of hurting others and forgotten like the caterpillar.. Which do you want to be remembered with love or hatred? the choice is yours...you never know what you have until you lose it.
