I am a minister, freedom fighter, hip-hop connoisseur, peace and community activist.
I served as White House intern under President William Jefferson Clinton and currently serve as CEO of the Hip Hop Caucus, and the Hip Hop Caucus Institute in Washington, D.C.
I was the National Grassroots and Political Director for the Russell Simmons’ Hip Hop Summit Action Network, and was a Senior Consultant for Sean “Diddy” Combs Citizen Change, and Jay Z’s Voice Your Choice, where I provided a national template for engaging the Hip-Hop generation in community-building dialogues. I was also the founder of Hip Hop Voices, a subsidiary of Voices for Working Families (AFL-CIO), and the Hip Hop U.N., which is a coalition of all the Hip Hop Political organizations throughout the world.
In addition, I am the Chairman of the Board for the Helping the Homeless of the World Inc., as well as a member of the Board of Directors for the Progressive Democrats of America, ROOT Inc., Industry Ears, Harambee Africa International, and I am on the steering committee for UP (United Progressives) for Democracy, Cities for Peace/Cities for Progress, No Fear Coalition, People's Hurricane Relief Fund, Climate Crisis Coalition, and United for Peace and Justice - Clergy and Laity Concerned about Iraq.
I graduated from the University of the District of Columbia, and Howard University Divinity School both Historical Black Colleges and Universities; I was blessed to be the Student Government President at both schools.
Who I'd like to meet: 1. Ella Baker, she was a charismatic labor organizer and longtime leader in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. She believed the movement should not place too much emphasis on leaders.
2. Septima Poinsette Clark, often called the ....queen mother'' of civil rights, was an educator and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People activist decades before the nation's attention turned to racial equality.
3. Fannie Lou Hamer, a Mississippi sharecropper, she was beaten and jailed in 1962 for trying to register to vote. She co-founded the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party and gave a fiery speech at the 1964 Democratic National Convention.
4. Vivian Malone Jones defied segregationist Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace to enroll in the University of Alabama in 1963 and later worked in the civil rights division of the U.S. Justice Department.
