Hi, I'm Rozagy (as in Roza G) and I work full time as an Artist, writer and composer. I have Asperger's syndrome and sometimes give talks on Autism and creativity. I'm also a film-maker having made one short film but it was only as an extention to my expression as an artist - I'm not a film director as such. I don't make films about Autism - many other people are doing it.
English is my second language. I've learnt English at 19 by memorising dictionary pages - I didn't know any other way (and I had no choice as NOBODY in Britain at the time would answer to me in Russian :-))
I'm glad I can speak and read English fluently - it had opened up an array of useful reading possibilities which helped to understand a little what makes people tick. In the past, I've been bullied, mainly by other girls at school and always left out of things (apparently a typical experience for people on the autistic spectrum).
In the words of Senegalese philosopher: "We only love what we know. And we only know what we are taught". We CAN teach ourselves!
I fronted Autism Awareness Campaign in 2007-2008 asking British Government to support people on the Autistic spectrum, with my song "Open Every Door", co-written with Nimal Mendis. The song was presented to Gordon Brown in Sept. 2007 .

Half of the proceeds go to Autism Research centre in Cambridge - the other half - to support Autism Awareness Campaign. I've declined to personally profit from this collaboration in monetary terms because I care about the change towards the whole subject of Autism more than anything in the world (my older son is on the Autistic spectrum and as a Mother, I will do anything to better his future on this Earth).
I fronted Gary McKinnon campaign (Gary is autistic hacker fighting extradition to US) for about a year and sincerely hope that he will be tried in Britain and have a chance to be rehabilitate and rebuild his life.
I've been busy lobbying the Government for the need for new artist-led (art and music based) provision for people on the Autistic spectrum as a stepping stone to help them into study and work. Because we could do with a programme that works if we're to avoid crisis as a society in the near future.
My autistic son still has not received any help with his behavioural or socialising difficulties . It is something I am fighting for .
I now make it my business to spread awareness of Autistic Spectrum conditions. I'm no different to all the Moms out there - I want the best for my children and I want a safer environment for them to grow up in. I have 2 lovely boys who are MY LIFE! .... I used to feel that I don't "belong" anywhere, like I've NEVER fitted in and often wished I wasn't alive...... But that was before I discovered that I have Asperger's (AUTISM WITHOUT LEARNING DISABILITIES but NOT A LIGHTER FORM - THERE'S NOTHING LIGHT ABOUT ASPERGER'S!) and met others like me....... They are usually very creative individuals, like Artists, composers, writers, poets, photographers, film-makers, University professors, scientists, the bright stars of maths and physics - all of them are people consumed by their creative passions. That's how I've learnt to survive, too. My creative output is what drives me and also enables me to survive and function in a sane way,
All I can say is Thank God for the Internet!
I used to think I was the only "weirdo" on the planet (ok, I didn't think that but that's how I was often treated) and now I find that there is an ARMY of us out there!!!!!!!...
On the subject of AUTISM, I say, DON'T MAKE A HITLER OUT OF A CANARY: yeah, yellow Birds are "different" - it doesn't make them WRONG!..... AUTISTIC people are "different" - it doesn't mean we are somehow less just because the WORLD DOESN'T UNDERSTAND! .. LOL :-))))))))) .....
For the sake of our children, I hope that the difference we're making in the world with regard to changing perception of Autism will mean that they will not have to suffer (like many of us did).
