Fun things - Adult Swim, board games, computer games, go-karts, dinner out, entertaning movies.
Productive things - drawing, science, photography, engineering, sculpture, writing.
People things - parties, conversations, hanging out, chilling.
Smarty-pants things - secular humanism, politics, current events, languages.
Music
Dream Pop, Punk, Goth, Trance, Electronica, Industrial, Noise Rock, Alternative, Tribal. (Medicine, Pixies, Chemical Brothers, Carfax Abbey, Talking Heads, White Stripes, Raconteurs, Beastie Boys, movie soundtracks).
I'm impatiently waiting for Chemical Brothers to put "Dig your Own Hole" on their Myspace music list, as well as The Pixies' "Digging For Fire". Odd coincidence (but nothing more) that both involve moving dirt with a shovel. I am, however, extremely glad that Medicine has a bunch of stuff up. Obscure band, but one of my favorites.... (If you haven't already ripped your speakers out after their track autoloaded on this page, you're listening to them now).
Movies
Action, sci-fi, spy, comedy. (Fight Club, Boondock Saints, Bourne Identity, Buckaroo Banzai, Zoolander, Good Night and Good Luck, V for Vendetta, X-Men, Kafka, Ocean's 11 w/Clooney and Pitt, Ninth Gate). David Mamet movies, Steven Soderbergh movies.
Television
Adult Swim (Venture Brothers, Harvey Birdman, ATHF, Futurama, Spaceghost - obviously). Daily Show, Stephen Colbert. The Tick (the animated series, not the live-action debacle). MST3K. Family Guy. Charlie Rose. Jim Lehrer. Jim Cramer. Arrested Development. Curb Your Enthusiasm. The West Wing. Project Runway. (buck the trend!)
Books
Comic books (Tintin; Alan Moore - Top Ten, Tom Strong, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Hatter M; Strange Girl; Lenore. Doonesbury; Bloom County; Calvin and Hobbes). Book books: Doyle (Sherlock Holmes); Poe; Salinger; A.C. Clarke; Frank Herbert; Umberto Eco; Robert Anton Wilson; P. G. Wodehouse.
Heroes
Ricky Jay (awesome); Tim Russert; Vannevar Bush (no relation to the current "dynasty"); Donald Menzel; Kelly Johnson; Woodward and Bernstein; Edward R. Murrows. Peter Weller (the ACTOR - not just as Buckaroo...). Members of my burgeoning senator trading card club: Jim Jeffords; Harry Reid; Charles Schumer; Dick Durbin; Patrick Leahy; Arlan Specter; John Warner; Robert Byrd; more. My fictional list: Cyrano de Bergerac. Bruce Wayne. More....

About me: Hey there! Nice shorts. Thanks for popping in. Here's a bit about me....
I wear a few different hats; among other duties, I'm the Columbus Bureau Chief for a product called Iroline. It's an anti-irony cream; you may have seen our ad in Priapus Weekly ("the black and white outlook in the blue and white tube"). Contact me if you, too, would like to earn extra money selling ointment after school. (Thanks to Lileks.com for appointing me to this station).
Otherwise, I spend most of my time trawling the oceans for friends, interests, activities, hobbies, shiny rocks, etc., to keep me unbored. When I'm not doing that, I watch cartoons. And when that fails to entertain me, I turn off the lights, cling bat-like to a ceiling fixture, unhinge my jaw, roll my eyes back, and lurk.
I'm also beginning to suspect that in a very Tyler Durden-kind-of-way I somnambulistically work at an engineering firm in Columbus, OH. (I've found crumpled time-sheets bearing my name in my pockets, and have occasionally drifted out of my normal fugue state into islands of lucidity, in which I've briefly witnessed my fingers furiously typing Fortran77 before my mind snaps shut again). I think my Otherself finds it rewarding on one level, yet it doesn't exercise all my creative muscles. Hence, I've bounced around seeking other expressive outlets. I joined an artists' community for a while (Milo Arts), hoping to stir up some trouble in the other half of my brain. That'll teach me to be careful what I wish for. After 18 months there, I moved out in October, 2008 and have decided to start a community workshop and learning center here in Columbus (The Idea Foundry). I'm hopeful that it will combine the productivity and functionality of a workshop with the creativity and fun of an artist's community. Once a month or so I plan to teach an educational program there (The Steampunk Laboratory), designed to teach science and engineering through art to students young and old. Should be fun!
I'm also a part of a growing group of friends based in our fair city: "Columbus Eclectic". (Yahoo Group Link, Myspace Group Link). Check it out, and join up if interested! We get together once a week or so, for happy hour, dinner, movies, go-karts, games, and group vivisections.
Lastly, I have an on-again-off-again blog (mostly off-again) about various electronics projects on EmbeddedRelated.com. Check it out if interested!
.
Who I'd like to meet: Other chill yet proactive iconoclasts in Columbus. Failing that, I'd like to meet any of the following heroes of mine (if you have an "in" with any of them, or otherwise share an interest, please let me know!) Piotr Skut, Captain Archibald Haddock, General Alcazar, Dr. Mussler.... Molatov Cocktease, Brock Samson, Helper.... Master Shake.... Irene Adler... Atticus Finch... Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier... (the list grows....)
Thanks for having me at the party last last weekend. I had a great time, and it got my mind off my fat lip! I love your new space, and I'm very excited for you. Thank you for always being so welcoming.
Happy 2008!!! So guess what, I am officially taking Physics (Mechanics and Heat) and Pre-calc this quarter, so I spend all of my free time in the Science and Engineering Library. It's not very crowded on Saturday nights :) Hope you had a nice trip. See you soon(ish).
Hi Alex! Life is good. Robb an I are getting ready to move to an apt on Bethel Rd, other than that not much is new. Do you still live off of old henderson?
Hey, nice to finally see the group again. I hope to visit a little more often and get to know everybody. Also, good job on biting the soap by drinking the water, I gotta give you props for that. Although, next time I'll make sure the water is brine rather than brackish.
Haha, was your bar tab over $300? By the way, I saw 300 with Robb (it was his second time)and thought it was fantastic! I couldn't believe how ripped the men were.
alex, i am always impressed by you and your pursuits. i very much appreciate you including me in your ventures...here's to squeezing all there is out of life!
Hi Alex! I loved what you did with your studio so far. Thanks again for the invite to peek into the artistic world of your new adventure. I feel like drawing again...
alex, thank you so much for opening your door to me again. your studio and miloarts is awesome...you've inspired me to find an outlet for my creative juices! thanks again.
