What influences me the most? Definitely life, and my own, deep feelings. And of course, on a subconscious level, I've been influenced (as it's probably the case for any other songwriter) by every bit of music I've ever heard. Since my early childhood, I've had the luck of listening (and loving) a wide variety of music, different styles and from different eras... The list gets pretty long, but lets start with my first love in music, Cri-Cri. I still enjoy his marvelous children songs. And then the names flow endlessly: Mecano, Ricardo Montaner, Laura Pausini, Pink, Giorgia, Gloria Trevi, Aleks Syntek, Nek, Black Eyed Peas, Lenny Kravitz... the works from Andrew Lloyd Wever (particularly when Sarah Brightman is performing!), Aretha Franklin, Queen, Juan Gabriel, Amanda Miguel, Jose Luis Perales, Biagio Antonacci, Mocedades, Journey, Sting, Madonna, Evanescense, Robbie Williams, System of a Down, 30 Seconds to Mars, Maroon 5, Linkin Park... Enya, Vangelis, Kitaro. Plus, I love the music from the Grandes Maestros, specially Vivaldi, Beethoven, Max Bruch and Carl Orf. The symphonic poems of John Williams (all his famous movie scores) are also an endless source of magic inspiration. In addition, I must say I love the poetry of Pablo Neruda and the novels of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
P.S. - Oh, almost forgot.... Did I mention I'm also a big fan of Pink Floyd, Nirvana and Guns'n Roses ;-) ?

La leyenda familar dice que aprendio a cantar antes que a hablar, repitiendo las melodias que escuchaba en los discos que su madre sonaba sin descanso dia y noche.
Shery es una nueva, apasionada cantautora, dotada de una voz que cautiva los sentidos y penetra profundo en el corazon, que escribe e interpreta canciones inspiradas, organicas, destiladas desde el fondo de su alma, que trascienden las barreras del lenguaje.
A traves de su muy personal estilo de sensual pop melodico, Shery celebra las sombras, los extasis y, sobre todo, las agonias del amor.
Su camino como artista empezo muy temprano, con su rostro de 5 años cubierto de harina mojada, un palo de trapeador haciendo de microfono, escoba por guitarra y un arsenal de cacharros de cocina sirviendo de bateria, mientras ella y sus hermanos jugaban a ser la mega banda Kiss.
Actualmente, tras dos años y medio de trabajo despiadado, anotandose en el camino cuatro hits 1 en radio a nivel nacional en su pais, esta joven estrella de Guatemala recien acaba de lanzar su album debut, El amor es un fantasma, irresistible coleccion de 13 canciones originales, cada una con su propia aura de genialidad melodica.
Dos temas invitados completan el disco: uno de Jose Luis Perales, el gran romantico español, y otro escrito por el talentoso productor y cantante Francesco Sondelli, quien ademas une su voz con la de Shery para interpretar un emocionante dueto en italiano. Otros duetos en el disco presentan al guatemalteco Jorge "el Bardo" Alvarado, y al cantante cubano-americano Daniel Rene, ex integrante de la popular banda de pop latino Menudo / MDO.
La produccion incluye un tema mezclado por Eddie Kramer, legendario productor de Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Kiss, The Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker, Carlos Santana and David Bowie.
El Amor es un Fantasma lleva el nombre de la primer cancion que Shery escribio, la cual se mantuvo por 26 semanas consecutivas en el Top 40 guatemalteco, fue finalista (entre 15,000 participaciones de todo el mundo) en el Concurso de Composicion John Lennon, de Nueva York, estuvo premiada por la Competencia de Composicion Unisong en Los Angeles, y le merecio una medalla en la Olimpiada Mundial de las Artes Escenicas, en Hollywood.
Su carrera se lanzo oficialmente hace tres años, cuando lo que se anticipaba como una velada intima para un reducido grupo de amigos se convirtio en un local totalmente vendido, inundado por un publico entusiasta, encantado por la pasion de una joven alma lo suficientemente valiente para subirse al escenario y cantar a corazon desnudo, presentando por primera vez en publico canciones que originalmente no habian sido escritas para difundirse, sino para exorcizar sus propias sombras.
Desde esa primera noche Shery se ha presentado ampliamente en multiples conciertos,y ha compartiendo escenario con estrellas latinas como Enrique Iglesias, Chayanne, Christian Castro, Manuel Mijares, Miguel Bose y Aleks Syntek. Su primera aparicion en los Estados Unidos fue en Washington D.C., invitada por la embajada de Guatemala. Shery is a new, passionate singer and songwriter, gifted with a voice that captivates the senses and go deep inside the heart. She writes and performs inspired, organic songs distilled right from her soul, transcending the barriers of language.
Through her very own brand of melodic, sensual pop, Shery celebrates the shadows, the ecstasies and, above all, the agonies of love.
Her journey as an artist began very early in life, with a mop handle as a microphone, a broom passing for guitar, an army of kitchen pots turned into drum set, and her face hidden behind layers of chalk powder, as she and her brothers transmuted into the mega band Kiss.
Now, after two and a half years of relentless work, scoring in the process four 1 hits on the radio charts nationwide in her country, this raising star from Guatemala has just released her debut album, El Amor es un Fantasma (in English: Love Is a Ghost), an irresistible torrent of 13 original songs, written entirely by herself, each alive with its own aura of melodic genius.
Two guest compositions complete the track list: one from Jose Luis Perales, the great Spanish romantico, and the other by talented singer / producer Francesco Sondelli, who also joins Shery for a soul-shaking duet in Italian. Shery is a two-time finalist in the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Contest, selected among 15,000 entries from all over the world. Her songs have been used for ringtones in Japan, and for a songbook used in Spanish courses in high schools and colleges across the US and Canada.
Her career was officially launched three years ago, when what was intended to be an intimate night for just a small circle of friends, became a totally sold-out venue, inundated by raving fans mesmerized with the passion of a young soul, brave enough to climb on stage and sing her heart out, performing in public for the first time songs she had not originally written to share with others, but to exorcize her own shadows
Since that fist night Shery has performed widely, sharing stage with Latin superstars the likes of Enrique Iglesias, Chayanne, Christian Castro, Manuel Mijares, Miguel Bose and Aleks Syntek. She did her first US appearance in Washington D.C. invited by the Guatemalan Embassy. She has been a guest artist in every single national T.V. and radio show in her country, and has been featured a massive number of times in magazines, newspapers and online publications in Guatemala and throughout Latin America.
After fleeing home at age 15 to pursue the unavoidable call of music, and before being able to start a career as a recording artist, Shery had to keep, since very young, a wide variety of jobs (from selling CDs at a record store to part-time tourist guide in the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala) fighting tenaciously to make ends meet.
Today, while keeping a busy promotional, travel and performing schedule, she dedicates hours every day personally replying to the growing army of fans who contact her from all corners of the world (including countries as unusual for Latin Pop such as Japan, Germany, Angola, Indonesia, Rumania, the US and the UK) through her website www.shery.net, her official MySpace page and Hi5 profile, which has become the most popular in the world.
