Bio
Born in Tel Aviv in 1976, Shlomi is a graduate of the Thelma Yellin High School for the Arts, and the London Royal College of Music, which awarded him an honors diploma as a pianist-artist. By the age of 21, already considered one of Israel's most promising classical pianists, he gave his debut performance in London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, and soloed with most of Israel's leading orchestras including the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Zubin Mehta. In parallel to his great success as a classical pianist, Shlomi gradually began exploring different musical scenes. The year 1998 was a turning point for him, when he shifted his artistic focus to rock and popular music. His debut album at age 23, featuring his own compositions, was received with great acclaim by critics and audiences alike. Many of the songs became radio hits, and won him the major musical awards of the year: Discovery of the Year (Music Academy, Radio 3, IDF Radio) Song of the Year (IDF Radio) and Surprise of the Year ("The Golden Feather," a Composers and Authors Society prize). In recent years Shlomi has often been invited to take part in special projects, all resulting in great praise for his unique, diverse talent and original approach. In 2001, Shlomi put on a one-man show for the Tel Aviv Piano Festival with unusual arrangements of both his known songs and new ones. The show, which had been planned as a one-time event, became an ongoing tour. In 2002 he initiated a "piano event" - a joint performance with Israeli rock star Rami Fortis. The surprise pairing of Shaban and Fortis was enthusiastically welcomed by both music lovers and the media: "...A tremendous evening....Shaban correctly assessed that Fortis' songs along with his personality form the potential for excellent musical arrangements..." (Maariv). The performance was released on DVD (Helicon). In 2003 Shlomi paired up with musician Eran Zur for an ongoing tour of "He and He," and has started to compose music for theater, television and movies. The soundtrack for "Nina's Tragedies" (in collaboration with Assaf Amdurski) was released on CD (N.M.C). In 2004 he joined forces with the acclaimed Batsheva Dance Company for "PianoJunkYard." In this extraordinary program Shlomi not only composed and arranged the music, but also sang and played various keyboards, including piano, prepared piano, harpsichord and harmonium. The dancers improvised live to the music they heard for the first time on stage. -

This second installment of the Detour series invites the viewer to revisit the perceptual experiment conducted in Detour 1 only instead of presenting the images in a rapid succession, here they are slowly fragmented almost like a puzzle occasionally coming together to form complete images. - Ruby Collins1 year ago

A performance experiment consisting of nearly 3 hours of home video footage arranged in an edit timeline and manually scrubbed at high speed in an attempt to generate random sensory impressions similar to memory fragments within the viewer's mind from which a personal subliminal narrative can be derived, similar to that of a recovering amnesia patient. - Mike Celona1 year ago
