The Story
Eliot met Gillian comparing a Karaoke competition in a hotel in the city of Sydney. He was mesmerised by her vocals and asked her to sing an original song. She seductively whispered into her microphone write one with me and
SideShow Annie was born.
Proudly independent, Gillian and Eliot wrote and self funded an incredible debut 12 track album Delusions of Grandeur that was released in February 2006 through MGM . They won the 2005 BluFM (Blue Mtns Radio Station) Singer Songwriter competition held in Katoomba in February 2005 and on the strength of this win SideShow Annie were invited to perform at the Katoomba 2005 Winter Magic Festival and 2006 Blues, Folk and Roots Festival. Their single Howlin charted in the Oz Music Charts for the year of 2005.
SideShow Annie are now receiving national airplay on 50+ stations including F.B.I.
The Music
Their songs are infectious and their sound fuses the essences of Glam Rock, Celtic, Eastern, Jazz, Pop & Punk. You name it, they're into it!! It's hard to box or catagorise SideShow's music. The band love all genres and it shows. Subjects of their songs cover anything from Mental illness to dysfunctional families, contemporary issues, places of the heart, friends and escapist dreams! Gillians vocals have been described as powerful, deep, rich and silky. SideShow Annie creates a musical dreamscape enchanting fans from fourteen to ninety, there are testimonials to prove it and the real proof is at the gigs. You be the judge!
The Journey
SideShow Annie started their Deluded tour in Autumn 2006 to promote their album Delusions Of Grandeur. They have played gigs such as Tris Elies, The Clarendon, The Esplanade (Melbourne) The Basement (Sydney), The Mountains Music Festival, etc. The band received rave reviews in numerous publications and audiences have been amazed by the bands musicianship and Gillian's vocals and charasmatic stage performance. She is a true frontwoman and has been compared to many of the great women in Rock n Roll. It's hard now a days not to compare, as there isn't much that hasn't been heard before. Still, Gillian gives it all she gots and is never anything but herself.
Two of SideShow Annie's songs have been used for television promotions in Australia (Home & Away being one of them), New Zealand, U.K & the U.S. Gill & El have also written for a film in the states and just recently for an anti bullying campaign that will be in circulation around schools within the next month. Gillian was also just recently contacted by a producer in N.Y to sing on a dance track that will be hitting the clubs shortly. The band are currently recording their new album in SongCave Studios and are hoping to release it before the end of the year. They should also be hitting venues near you in the very near future. SideShow Annie play as a five piece unit these days, but occasionally go out as a duo or trio. Allowing them to go back to their roots and feel the intimacy and wide open spaces that only an acoustic gig can provide. We welcome you to the SideShow!
