SMOKIN' SLEDDOG RECORDS is proud to be one of the 2009 sponsors supporting IDITAROD SLEDDOG RACER, DEEDEE JONROWE!
UPDATE: DeeDee placed 13th out of 67 mushers! She was the 2nd female racer to pull across the finish line and one of only three women in the top 25. Congratulations DeeDee--you are SMOKIN'!
DeeDee has won numerous awards for the care of her dogs throughout her career, including the best-cared for team, the best dog care award (given by staff veterinarians), the dog's best friend award, and the Iditarod’s Alaska Airlines Leonhard Seppala Humanitarian Award for excellence in dog care. Because her dogs are a top priority, she became a founding member of Mush with PRIDE, which provides responsible information of a dog's environment, exhibiting her commitment to set the standards for all aspects of sled dog care.
DeeDee Jonrowe is the foremost female dog musher competing in the world today. She has both the fastest time of any woman in the history of the Iditarod and 14 top ten finishes in her career. Her second place finish in 1998 was the fifth fastest Iditarod time ever recorded at that point. In addition to the Iditarod, DeeDee has competed and won most major dog sledding races throughout her career, including the Copper Basin 300, Klondike 300 and the John Beargrease sled dog marathon.
DeeDee ran her first Iditarod in 1980 and soon undertook a comprehensive breeding and training program for her dogs, and a rigorous physical fitness program for herself. By the time DeeDee and her team undertake the Iditarod in March of each year, they have logged over 2000 miles of training together.
Her highly publicized battle with breast cancer that she began in 2002 has seen her become a tireless fundraiser. DeeDee has been profiled in such media outlets as Sports Illustrated, Redbook, and Outside magazines. She is a published author, and is currently pending another book profiling her comeback from cancer to race again.
Although DeeDee has run in and won many dog sled races, the world renowned Iditarod is the race for which she is best known.

Smokin' Sleddog Records & Promotions at The Americana Music Association Conference in Nashville Tennessee.
Smokin' Sleddog Records Showcase & Party, Friday September 19, 2008 at 12th & Porter!
We had an amazing night of music with several talented artists performing under the Smokin' Sleddog umbrella--great sets by John Latini, Jill Jack, Emily Hurd, Chris Castle with Tony Schaffer, Sara Petite with Steve Peavey, Greg Jenkinson and Jamie-Sue Seal. The folks at 12th & Porter, including Justin, Primo and Jessica were wonderful. Thank you to all who stopped by our booth to chat and introduce yourselves and to those who came out to the showcase--we enjoyed playing for you! We also had the pleasure of hearing many fine folks who participated in our Open Mic. It was a satisfying evening of music, pizza and beer!
It was our fourth visit (not consecutively) to the Americana Music Association Conference.....much has changed--some for the better, other areas, well, not so much. We love Americana deep in our bones and hope that there is a hopeful and healthy appetite for it for many years.

SIUSAN O'ROURKE & ZIG ZEITLER CD RELEASE PARTY SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 28, 2008 @ 7PM AT THE WHITE CROW CONSERVATORY IN SAGINAW MICHIGAN!
Siusan & Zig are releasing their two latest and greatest CDs simultaneously. Their newest Irish CD is beautiful and wrenching and entertaining--its called "Immigrant Heart". It contains some Irish standards--some sad, some just plain funny. It also has new and moving tunes written by Siusan. If you love Irish music, this disc is for you.
The second CD is entitled "The Usual Suspects" and this disc is filled mostly with Americana flavored roots music written by O'Rourke or Zeitler. It's quirky and amazing.
Siusan & Ziggie spent the summer on planes, trains, boats, horse-drawn wagons and automobiles. They headlined, supported and taught at festivals, concerts and venues from Massachusetts to Long Island to Mississippi to Louisiana to Tennessee and Wisconsin and in every corner of Michigan. Zig even managed to get a couple of blues and cajun gigs in. Be sure to check out Zig's cajun and blues at www.myspace.com/zydecoziggie.
They are continuing to run their wonderful venue, The White Crow Conservatory in Saginaw, Michigan.

JAMMIN' ROUND WITH JAMIE-SUE SONGWRITERS SERIES
One of the few places north of Nashville that is literally in-the-round. Jamie-Sue started this series at Schuler Books & Music early in 2002. Then the series moved just north of Lansing to a beautiful space inside Christ United Church in DeWitt Michigan. It is regarded as a place where many musicians love to play. As Jamie-Sue often says, "it's like taking your friends to work with you!"--how great is that?!
Musicians from all over have played in the series and ask to come back time and time again. Jamie-Sue has a special knack for grouping together a compatible cast of characters that compliment each other's music and personalities. Audience members enjoy the idea of being a "fly on the wall" and witnessing the interaction between new and old friends.
Jamie-Sue's priority is making the evening a memorable and enjoyable experience for the audience as well as the musicians. The room is decked out with cafe tables, candles and snacks and baked goods from regional and independent shops and bakeries and fair trade coffee and tea are available to purchase by donation.
Artist CDs and merchandise are offered for sale at each round. www.JamminRound.com
In the fall of 2008, you can now find us producing our series, Jammin' Round At The Crow, monthly at the incredible White Crow Conservatory run by our label mates, Siusan O'Rourke & Zig Zeitler. The White Crow is located in Saginaw Michigan, and is a full service facility providing music lessons of all kinds, instrument and Cd sales, and a concert hall. www.WhiteCrowConservatory.com
