Interests

  • General

I'm totally addicted to my computer, love a good roadtrip and photography, really like mystery & suspense novels and want to get back into quilting & sewing. Throw in a little cardmaking, scrapbooking, crochet, embroidery, gardening, games, puzzles, blogging, pets, family, friends and our first grandchild and there is not enough time to do it all. My favorite place to get away is the beach.

    Farm Town
  • Music

I like a lot of different styles, artists and eras. Rock, pop, blues, jazz, big band, country, contemporary christian and southern gospel. It all depends on the song, the artist and my mood.

OREGON - My Home

BASICS 101
Things you never wanted to know about me and in no particular order.

1. I was born and grew up in Oregon.
2. My heritage is german on my father's side and the british isles on my mother's.
3. I have one brother who is 16 months younger.
4. I'm 5'2" tall, with blue eyes, fair skin and medium brown hair (which I sometimes frost or highlight).
5. I got my dad's fine straight hair (my brother got mom's course, curly hair).
6. I was very blonde as a child, but it got darker through my teens & twenties.
7. I have very little gray (thanks Dad). My brother grayed early like mom.
8. My husband also has one brother (younger) which obviously means we're both first born.
9. Which also means we both want to be the boss. Somehow we've managed to stay married for 39 years.
10. I was 19 and he was 22 when we married.
11. We have two children. A son 39 and a daughter 36.
12. I'm named after my two grandmothers and I like my names. My husband is named after his two grandfathers. Is this coincidence?
13. Both of our children are married and chose great partners.
14. Our son and his wife live just half a mile from us. Our daughter and her husband live in Indiana (much too far away, but they're happy and that's where he's from).
15. We have one granddaughter, born July 2007 and she's absolutely adorable.
16. I've always been an animal lover and have had cats and dogs my entire life.
17. I have a dog named Sadie and two cats whose names are Thomas and Mr. O'Reilly.
18. Our yellow lab died December 2005. His name was Cody.
19. My favorite color is blue. My next favorites are red and purple.
20. The color I look best in is pink, but blue is a close second.
21. All of my parents and grandparents are dead. I miss my maternal grandmother the most and she's the one I quilted with.
22. I love a good roadtrip. The longer the better.
23. I've been in 26 of the 50 states.
24. Canada and Mexico are the only foriegn countries I've been to.
25. I spend way too much time on the computer.
26. I don't like being told what to do, how to do it and when to do it.
27. My favorite job (and most important) was raising our two children, but I've had lots of other jobs as well.
28. I've been a waitress.
29. Sold real estate.
30. Did daycare in my home.
31. Taught preshcool and been a teacher's aide.
32. Worked in the purchasing office of a manufacturing firm (and relieved the receptionist).
33. Secretary to the community school director.
34. Sewed for people and taught sewing as well as sewed for my family.
35. Worked in fabric stores and a women's clothing store.
36. Worked in a book & gift store.
37. Owned my own book, gift and music store in the 1990's.
38. Taught scrapbooking classes for a craft book publisher at scrapbooking conventions around the country.
39. I've also done a lot of volunteer work.
40. I coached little league baseball and soccer.
41. Was a member of the PTA and room mother several times. Helped out in the classroom when needed.
42. Was a bluebird leader, cub scout leader and 4-H leader.
43. Children's Sunday School Teacher.
44. Adult Sunday School Teacher and bible study leader.
45. Junior High Youth Group Leader & Sunday School Teacher and helped the Youth Minister with the high school group.
46. Summer camp counselor (jr. high & high school).
47. At camp I was known as the camera lady. I would take pictures all week long and then give the kids a slide show put to music on their last night.
48. I was in Toastmasters for several years (public speaking) and put it to use at various church and community functions.
49. I'm currently leader of a TOPS group (Take Off Pounds Sensibly).
50. My only surgery was removal of half of my thyroid because of a lump which was benign thank goodness, but the size of an egg. I can swallow pills now :o)
51. I used to be quite the shopper, but now I prefer to do most of it online. I need to start selling though as I'm quite the packrat (not a good thing).
52. I like what I'm wearing to match and passed that on to my daughter. There are times however, when I'm lazy and don't give a rip.
53. I always got compliments on how nice my children looked clear up through high school. My children were well-behaved for the most part. My son was a definite challenge for both us and teachers (button pusher extraordinaire), but a good kid so we all survived.
54. My husband and I never finished college, but both of our children did.
55. I love to play board games and cards. My husband doesn't like playing games and the kids are gone, so I play mostly on the computer ;-)
56. My taste in music is eclectic and varies with my mood, but 60's & 70's rock is my favorite.
57. I also like blues, jazz, country, pop, showtunes, big band, contemporary christian and gospel.
58. My favorite fiction is mysteries, but some romance once in awhile is OK, too. I read a lot of non-fiction and have a tendency to pick up and put down and skim and have several going at a time.
59. That tends to make me feel like I never read anymore (even though I do) because I'm not reading a single book from start to finish before picking up another. That's only true of non-fiction of course.
60. I'm a good reader, but slow (my mind wanders or I get distracted by what's going on around me).
61. Obviously I have a problem with focus and concentration. I'm ADHD and was diagnosed in my mid-forties. The psychologist said I was very intelligent, just very, very distractable. I can come across as quite ditsy at times or spacey.
62. I did fairly well in school because I liked it, I'm an auditory learner with a good memory and I was a good test taker (hated essay questions though).
63. I actually read all those required books in high school and liked them.
64. My study habits were terrible. On the weekend I would read a novel Saturday, another one Sunday and then attempt to do my homework Sunday night.
65. I am still the Queen of procrastination.
66. I've read nearly all of Agatha Christie's books, as well as the Cat Who series, the Mrs. Pollifax series, several of Jeffrey Deaver's books, etc.
67. I'm nearly always late to everything even though I don't mean to be (no concept of time).
68. I'm finding a list like this to be too much I, I, I and me, me, me. Maybe it's theraputic?
69. My grandmother and my mother-in-law were my chief mentors and the women I most want to emulate.
70. I believe in Heaven and Hell.
71. I believe the bible is the inspired word of God.
72. I believe Jesus is the son of God.
73. I believe Jesus was crucified and resurrected.
74. I believe in the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).
75. I believe that Jesus paid the price for our sins and bridged the gap between us and God. Our salvation is a free gift.
76. I believe that the only thing needed for us to enter heaven is to accept what Jesus did for us and follow Him. We do not have to work our way there.
77. I have not led a perfect life and never will. Who does?
78. Any changes in my behavior or lifestyle come as a result of my desire for a better life and love for Christ, not because someone says I have to.
79. The world outside of church walls is just as full of hypocrites as the space inside the walls. It is a human condition. :-)
80. My husband is an introvert and I am an extrovert. I am an ENTP or a Sanguine/Choleric on the other personality type profile. I think that's an otter/lion on the animal one, but I could be wrong, it's been a long time since I read that stuff.
81. I'm very verbal (in other words I talk too much). I don't like the phone for some reason, even though I can talk your leg off in person.
82. I'm a night owl so obviously I'm not a morning person. Do not ask me a question in the morning and expect a civil answer.
83. I love CocaCola and chocolate. I have a huge sweet tooth and have never been able to give up sweets for any length of time.
84. I don't eat near enough fruits and vegetables. I love breads, pasta, rice and all the other carbs.
85. I hate to exercise, but I know I should if I want to still be moving as the years roll on.
86. I can be very impatient with adults who just don't seem to get it and yet have been told that I'm very patient (especially with children).
87. I sowed a few wild oats in my youth - remember, I'm not perfect. I carry a reminder of that in my liver.
88. I'm a photo nut and amateur photographer. I think I would like to do something more with it.
89. Black & white is artistic and very effective for some things, but I still prefer color (and not only in photography).
90. I love flowers and sunshine so I garden even though I'm not really an outdoorsy person.
91. I battle migraines, thyroid, acid reflux and depression, but have good health otherwise.
92. I love to sing along with the radio, but my children always begged me to stop if they were around.
93. I love to dance, but don't know how anymore for lack of a partner. My husband doesn't dance and he's 6'3'' which means my face is somewhere between his chest and his stomach instead of on his shoulder. ;-)
94. I love movies, but don't like horror or dumb comedies. I love a good comedy, just not the really dumb ones.
95. My favorite TV shows of late are CSI, Law and Order, Bones, Crossing Jordan, Overhaulin', Trick My Truck, Nashville Star, American Idol and Biography.
96. Some of my favorites in the past were Perry Mason, Maverick, Star Trek, Murder She Wrote, Matlock, Diagnosis Murder, Wild Wild West, Magnum P.I., Cosby Show, Little House on the Prairie, The Walton's, Disney, Zorro, The Lone Ranger, Superman, I Love Lucy and don't forget those old movies like Robin Hood and Sherlock Holmes.
97. I do not like wrestling, the 3 Stooges, or most of the reality shows which is why I never watch them. I'm probably the only one who has never watched Survivor.
98. I think we pay our entertainment figures (athletes, actors, musicians) way too much in both money and attention while paying too little to people who make a hands on difference in our day to day lives.
99. I love old stuff. Old houses, antiques, and just about anything that reminds me of what I saw or had when I was growing up.
100. My biggest wish right now is to remodel our house before it falls down around us.
101. My best friend and I have known each other for over 40 years (we met in high school) and our husbands have become best friends in the last few years which makes for a really nice foursome for dinner, cards or a trip to the beach.

MY LIFE - a few pieces of it anyway :o)
