What is Stand 4 Peace all About..?
STAND 4 PEACE is a student-centred extra-curricular group at Spectrum Community School dedicated to raising awareness throughout the school and community of injustice towards children everywhere.
Since its inception in 2004, the group has spearheaded a host of fund-raising and awareness-raising campaigns, including T-shirt and teddy bear drives for the children of Malawi and Zambia and victims of Hurricane Katrina, and participated in city-wide events like the Gulu Walk for the children of northern Uganda.
Last spring, the group saw the completion of its first major project. Working with the "Free The Children" organization, Stand 4 Peace raised $6,000 to have a school built in Yamandu Village in Sierra Leone.
The group is currently working with the "Bruce Peru" organization, attempting its most ambitious project to date--raising $6,800 to have a school/shelter built for street kids in the country of Peru.
Ticket proceeds from "Perform 4 Peace III" will go towards the "Peace 4 Peru" initiative. For sale at the event will be the CD "Spectrum 4 Africa," produced and recorded by members of Stand 4 Peace and featuring original songs by students, staff and friends of the school. Proceeds from CD sales will go towards purchasing school supplies for the children of Yamandu Village in Sierra Leone.
The "Final Four" performers from "Spectrum Idol," one of the groups most popular fund-raising events, will help open "Perform 4 Peace III."
