Influences

My musical influences started at a very early age and continue to grow. My writing has been influenced by such greats as; Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Bob Marley, Dottie Brown(mother), Stevie Wonder, Taj Mahal, Gavin Christopher, The Band, Justin Hines, Burning Spear, Third World Band, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Sylvester Stone, The Delfonics, Holland & Dozier, Smoky Robinson, Al Green, Wilson Pickett, Marvin Gaye, Tower of Power, Beres Hammonds, Sting, Maxwell, Andy Bey...so many artists have touched my heart I can't list them all.

The largest influence on my music and performance has been my spiritual growth and understanding the power of love. It's made me a more complete, patient and devoted person.

Sounds Like

My music is a combination of all the styles of music I have ever heard or experienced. I don't draw lines at styles of music, I just make an effort to create and perform quality music. I have been more influenced by time than I have by anyone or any group of artists because music changes with time .

I sound like Tony Brown.

FREEDOM BEYOND RECOGNITION  T.Brown/Living Nation 2009-1

The songs on this CD come from my soul. These sounds are the stories of my life and experiences and observation that I think a lot of people share but don’t communicate in a way that brings resolution to the issues express in some of these lyrics. That’s why this CD exist to bring the image to the front of our minds and start the process of understanding the oneness of our world and our issues within this world.

I have been performing and writing music my whole life. It is what I do best.

I believe I was giving this blessed gift to communicate with people and to also heal people’s souls and make them enjoy life even if it is for one brief moment. I write music that mirrors what I see and experience in my life. It’s sometimes too realistic, but life has always been that way to me. I love celebration so I have to create happy music as well as thoughtful music. I think music is really good when you get a visualization through sound or you get an emotion “rush” through the conveyance of the song. Then it hits that part of your soul that is home to your spirit, then music is good.

Reggae music has become spiritually and emotionally deluted in some area's of the USA. The inspiration just isn't there as it was in the 1970's and 1980's and early 1990's. A lot of the young players of music are trying to become a star before they become a musician at heart. You are not the one to decide or give the badge of "PAYING YOUR DUDES" this is granted to the depth of your heart and the richness of you inspiration within you original music or within music you play that is received by people who receive your music and creation as MEDICINE for their souls. Some people who play music think success is having people like you, like a cupcake. When the true respect and sign of success is how many people apply your music when they are in need of uplifting, soothing, dancing, communicating and just vibing.
I suggest you drop by JOLLY BOB'S ON WILLIAMSON STREET NEW YEARS EVE. There will be some players there that have paid some dues and you will know it because the first thing you will hear will be their hearts, the second thing you will hear will be ROOTS REGGAE MUSIC grown up from the old school STYLEE!! Ras  Dread-I and Sister sue make this nice the right way... Check the poster for specifics!!!!

Blessings and respect to all my FRIENDS and all the guest that flow through. The world of music is a world of peace, love, excitement, joy, blues, tears, laughter, hope, sadness, fantasy...MUSIC is a clear pool until we, as musicians add to it's ingredients and essence. We, as musicians must become more interconnected with each other to examplify the ONENESS of creation. WE when as musicians examplify or likes and dislikes, our personalization of other musicians and their choices in styles and fashions in anegative way it is magnified because we ARE that deep and we have that much of an impact on the hearts and souls of people who view, listen and believe in us. LET US JOIN TOGETHER to be at one with the music through the efforts to be at one with each other and supportive of each other. In the name of the MOST HIGH.

Back ways in time not so far I was honored to have two legendary Jamaican musicians perform with me and my band. At the time both these brothers and I  were working with Justin Hinds. I was playing guitar, doing some road management and booking some shows, as well as, doing some recording. After Justin's date were over I asked George "Deadly Headley" Bennette and Vin Gordon, if they would like to go out for a few shows with me and my band around the mid-west. They made my music sound like it came straight from heaven. recently I have reconnected with Vin Gordon and hopefully we will do some work in the near future. "BUT" for those of you who don't know who Vin Gordan is I want to send you to his page on MYSPACE!!!

Barrington
Castillo Places Third!
In the September Celebrations Patriotic Song Competition, Winners Announced

September Celebrations 2009 is on its way as on August 15th, the House of Culture was buzzing with hundreds of attendees gathered for a night of fun and excitement at the Patriotic & Carnival Song Competition. Barrington Castillo of La Isla Bonita, San Pedro, captured third place with $1,000.00 and a trophy for his song “Shout Belize”.
In total, there were 17 submissions for the Patriotic Song and 11 submissions for the Carnival Song from which seven semi-finalists from each category were selected. The competition was open to Belizean nationals living at home and abroad. The Patriotic Songs had to be new original pieces with less than five minutes duration and included lyrics that would instill patriotism and a sense of national pride. The songs had to be focused on the history of St. George’s Caye and/or Belize’s Independence.
Bea Armstrong, Alexander Evans and Herchel Armstrong of Belize City, wowed the audience with “Belize – We are Free”, which garnered them 1st place in the Patriotic Song Competition. Their prize package included $3,000.00 and a trophy. Second place winner Nello Player (Kernel Parks), also of Belize City, was awarded with $2,000.00 plus a trophy for his song “Take Me Back to Belize” and Barrington Castillo of La Isla Bonita, San Pedro, captured third place with $1,000.00 and a trophy for his song “Shout Belize”.
Of course, what would September Celebrations be without Carnival Songs to set off the “bramming session.”

Biography

24 July 1934, Durant, Mississippi, USA,
d. 15 February 1987. This versatile singer first came to prominence in 1963
with the self-penned "How Can I Forget?" which was covered at the
same time by Ben E. King. Holiday later joined the Minit label where he made
several excellent recordings, ranging from the "Memphis"-influenced
R&B of "You Won't Get Away" to the urban soul of "I'm Gonna
Move To The City". His biggest hit on Minit was "Baby I Love
You" (1966), a bigger hit for Little Milton in 1970. Holiday also recorded
with former Raelette Clydie King, and later pursued a career as a songwriter on
his departure from the label. A partnership with Randy Myers and Jackie
DeShannon produced several excellent compositions, including the much-covered "Put
A Little Love In Your Heart", recorded successfully in 1989 by Al Green
and Annie Lennox. Holiday died of heart failure in 1987.
