About me:

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, or TRLA, as it is affectionately known in some circles, is a non-profit agency that specializes in providing free civil legal services to the indigent residents of Central, South and West Texas. TRLA's staff includes approximately 115 lawyers and 51 paralegals and social workers located in 16 offices throughout the state. Program headquarters are in Weslaco, in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, with branch offices located in Austin, El Paso, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Harlingen, Edinburg, Laredo, Sinton, and Victoria. TRLA also houses its Southern Migrant Legal Services Project out of an office in Nashville, TN.

TRLA provides legal services in 39 different practice areas including:

ECONOMIC & SOCIAL JUSTICE colonias, consumer issues, disaster assistance, environmental justice, mental health, nonprofit organizations, taxes, wills, estates

FAMILY LAW domestic violence, sexual assault, protective orders, safety planning, child custody, divorce

HOUSING landlord-tenant disputes, foreclosures, discrimination, federally subsidized housing, manufactured homes, individuals with disabilities

INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS border issues, civil rights, criminal justice, disabilities, education, humna trafficking, immigration, juvenile justice

    The family of John Cook is deeply appreciative of the honor afforded him by his friends and colleagues at TRLA in naming its Edinburg office building in his honor. We will always fondly recall the dedication program and reception on March 5th.
