Spawned from America's finest city, San Diego, Ca. Black Cotton (BC) is destined to cause a stir in the ever-changing culture of hip-hop. BC is comprised of three talented emcees: Jimbo Slice, Leo-Nardo and music producer extraordinaire, Marre-L (all childhood cronies). To the members of Black Cotton, the group name represents foundation and wealth. The United States was largely founded on the agricultural business of producing and selling cotton, which in turn meant wealth at the time. To BC, wealth is also what you make it: family, community, relationships, life, memories etc.
BC's style is described as real Hip Hop with an R&B swagger, wearing a conscious kufi in a gangsta stance. The members of BC are intelligent enough to know their music cannot please everyone, but through their unique style, they will definitely try. Many say that BC is different, that their style is “throw back Hip Hop”. Others say BC's lyrics are real and that their beats remain true to the meaning of Hip Hop. What is fact is that BC is far from the norm. Black Cotton's music is original and has sounds for every occasion. They are the part of the equation that will bring the love of Hip Hop back into our hearts.
BC has performed in U.S. cities such as San Diego, Los Angeles, Fullerton and Buena Park. They have been interviewed by variety of media outlets such as www.xradio.biz/hiphop and have been prominently featured in the Media Zone at www.AllHipHop.com. From winning “Battle of the Bands” competitions, to performing at store openings such as Tower Records, to opening for headliner artists such as Mitchy Slick, Black Cotton has the ability to amaze listeners and fans.
