About Day:
When Day steps on stage and into the spotlight, crowds gather, hearts thump, feet cannot help but move. This is the power that he has as a singer and entertainer. His magnetism and charisma shine through when he performs and his obvious love of music and dance is apparent. But his eclectic, unique style was not born overnight. Hard work and dedication have accompanied his transitions into other forays in the performing arts. This accomplished singer/songwriter/producer and actor has an impressive record that makes him a hot item by industry standards. Hold on to your seats. You are about to embark on Day’s journey.
Day started singing in church at the age of three and was given his first solo by the time he was nine. His mother and father were imperative in fueling his love of music. Day’s father would type out the lyrics to songs that he liked and encourage the kids to rehearse for hours, especially on the weekends. Day and his siblings would then present the final product to their mother, who was their biggest supporter. Growing up in a house of music lovers ensured that Day was exposed to diverse musical styles from an early age, ranging from Sly Stone, Gladys Night and the Pips, and The Commodores, to Bon Jovi, Bruce Springstein and Madonna. Day’s Aunt, exposed him to the hip, urban sounds of artists like Rakim, Grand Master Flash, Biz Markie, Run DMC and Slick Rick.
Day took this great love of music to the next level when he successfully auditioned for La Guardia High School of the Performing Arts, one of the premium schools of this type in the United States. As a vocal major, Day was formally trained in many musical styles, but credits classical training as being the most important in his transition from amateur to professional singing. It is at this school that Day’s involvement in the performing arts exploded. He joined a rap group, started song writing and even developed an interest in acting. Attending this school was not only great in shaping Day’s artistic style and appreciation, but it also introduced him to the other three members of Forever Chozen, a dynamic, young R&B group that would bring great hope but also great disappointment to Day in the future.
Forever Chozen comprised a group of La Guardia boys who had big dreams. Through sheer talent and dedication, they were signed to Sony Records and were prepared to take the industry by storm. Day sang lead for the group on the title track of a Grammy winning project entitled, “Stand and Fight for your Rights”. The project boasted huge industry names like Wyclef jean, Lauren Hill, Cindi Lauper and others. The group opened for mega acts such as Angie Stone, Chico Debarge, Joe, Donell Jones, Case and Ruff Ends. The boys seemed poised for success. However, lack of proper management and naiveté on the part of the group’s members caused them to break up before they could ever really taste success.
From Day’s point of view, his biggest accomplishment to date has been singing background for J.T. Taylor of Kool and the Gang, a gig he secured post-Forever Chozen. Day toured the world with J.T. and sang in countries like Japan, Thailand and Germany to name a few. This was just the beginning of great things that Day would do as a solo artist.
Today, Day sings lead in several of New York City’s hottest cover bands such as Blaze and The Untouchables. He also sings background for Atlantic Recording Artist “Deemi” and Independent Recording Artist “T.L. Cross”, recently featured in Billboard Magazine
But the credits don’t stop there. Day has co-starred in a movie called “30 Years to Life”, alongside Tracey Morgan and Erika Alexander. In the next few years, he intends to establish a career performing only original material. He’d also like to feature on records and produce for today’s aspiring and top artists.
