Ode to The Man In Black
    by Ric on Infield Parking

He was a schemer and a dreamer
    A sinner and a saint
He was a teddy bear in old blue jeans
    That never minded tradin' paint

He was a hunter and a fisherman
    A sportsman through and through
    A cowboy and a gentleman
    Until the green flag flew

He was a husband and a father
    A brother and a son
He was an icon for the ages
We lost before his work was done

In the garage he was the leader
And a mentor on the track
He was a man so strong, for many years
He carried NASCAR on his back

He was the truest fan of racing
The sport defined itself through him
Even with the worst of cars
He'd find a way to win

If you saw him in your mirror
    And didn't move aside
He'd nudge you none too gently
And with a smile, wave "bye bye"

He'd be a prankster during practice
And a devil racin' on the track
I don't need to say his name
We all know "The Man In Black"

God help me, how I miss him
So much has changed since he's been gone
The sport that he had loved so dear
    Has gone so very wrong

We all know he's in racing heaven
With the greats that went before
And every week the 3's not on the track
    I miss him even more

    At least in racing heaven
We know things are as they should be
'Cause when the thunder rolls I hear ole' Fireball
    Shoutin' "Damn that number THREE"!

Dale loved a lot of music - and there's been plenty of music wrote about him or dedicated to him and his legacy. I am posting them in this playlist as I find them and get time. Please check back often as I update this.

Daytona Memories - Continuing the Legend

Ten years ago the tears flowed
As all the teams flocked up pit road
    Atta boy Dale everyone echoed

Seven years ago a brother cheered
    while announcing Mikey's win
But the cheers turned to fears
As the racing world went into a tailspin

Three years ago the son came to visit
    the famed Daytona Victory Lane
    After completing 200 circuits
And we all basked once again in champagne

Now Fifty years since the start
we look back at the memories of this famous race
We fondly keep their spirits in our hearts
And continue the legend with love and grace

The tag above is not posted to be offensive - remember this was made (not by me) but back in the days of the late 90's before Dale passed. I personally have learned to respect all drivers because I don't want any fan to go through what I did on February 18, 2001. ..
