The Old Dance School’s exhilarating concoction of explosive, white-knuckle folk is blowing up a storm on the festival scene this summer. The twinkly-eyed six piece band features duelling fiddles and hair-raising world percussion, intricate tunes and rip-roaring compositions of witches, wind-swept headlands and wild vertical adventures.
Now over three years in the making, The Old Dance School has gone from strength to strength, the band have featured on Radio 2’s Bob Harris’ show and have also supported Bellowhead and Dave Swarbrick at Birmingham Town Hall. With appearances at arts centres and theatres across the country, with the Joe Broughton Folk Ensemble, music festivals, folk clubs and ceilidhs. A self-produced live basement EP under their belts, the ODS have recently completed their debut full-length studio album, Based on a True Story avaliable from theolddanceschool.com, produced by Joe Broughton.
With many shows planned for 2009 including Warwick Folk Festival, Ireby Folk Festival, Town Hall Birmingham and a tour with Jack McNeill and Charlie Heys (BBC Folk Awards), this year is set to be another busy year for The Old Dance School
