The Northern Pacific Rain Factory was originated by Michael Kohlmeier in 1995. After many performances, radio airplay from their debut album, “All Those Yesterdays” produced by Howard Leese (the Paul Rogers band and formally of Heart) and record label recognition, the group disbanded in 1998. A year later, Michael and his wife Lisa, who was now playing bass with Michael, moved to Centralia, Washington to renovate an old church fondly referred to as The Castle.
After several attempts (within their first few years in Centralia) to find the right combination of players for The Rain Factory, Michael and Lisa asked Cris Coleman to join the group in 2004 on lead guitar. Adding Cris with his heavier "Joe Satriani/Zack Wilde" influenced style to Michael and Lisa’s blues-rock influences’ of "Led Zeppelin and the Black Crows" gave their sound more of an edge. Finally, in 2007, with an opportunity to open for the Pat Travers Band, they asked the very talented Marc Daigneault to play drums with the group for the performance. When they rocked the house the eve of September 15th, Marc agreed to join the group, adding his "Neil Peart/Michael Derosier" drumming style to the mix.
The Rain Factory is enthusiastic and fun loving and has one goal in mind with every performance-“to make people smile and have a good time.” With their common belief that “…music is good for your soul,” it shows with every show. The Rain Factory has had the privilege to share the stage with such notables as Pat Travers, Randy Hansen, the Howard Leese Brigade, Gary Hoey, Nicole Fournier, Jerry Joseph and as the backing band for country singer “Sonja” opening for Dwight Yokum and Joe Diffey in Seaside, Oregon’s Convention Center.
The Rain Factory is an original Rock group who has recently decided to add cover songs to their set. Performing the music of Collective Soul, Daughtry, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin (to name a few) has added some familiarity to their audience, which has been exciting for the band. “Although our fans have enjoyed our older original songs, it makes us more comfortable to not stick to the old diehard rule of “playing only our own material” because it gives the newcomers something familiar to keep their attention through the set while they are gaining exposure to our newer original material.” The Rain Factory, 2007.
QUOTES FROM DAMN GOOD TUNES MAGAZINE.....make way for the second act, The Rain Factory. I First met with Mike and Lisa Kolemeier of the Rain Factory and also the owners of The Castle about six years ago. I have been silently watching their progress from the shadows with great expectations. Then earlier this year I was there to watch them do the warm-up for world renowned guitar hero Pat Travers, also at The Castle. ...Lisa and Mike and their very committed band of four very humbly yet powerfully proceeded to “ROCK THE HOUSE!” WOW! What a set, what a performance. I knew that there was something very special about the Kolemeiers (their band) and their musical mission and vision beyond that of their Tower Keep.... The band was tight and energetic and segued from one song to the next seamlessly. Their professionalism was that of a seasoned international show on a 100-city tour. This band The Rain Factory (you gotta love that name living in the Pacific Northwest!) is as ready as a band can be to become a loved and accepted touring show. They have something to say and a lot of great music to play!
