The 2009 Trail Dance Film Festival is an exhibition of 84 of today’s best independent films. Featuring ten (10) never before seen World Premiere films, over 100 filmmakers and actors, magicians, and Wild West re-enactors. This year’s theme is “Film is Magic.” Trail Dance will take place at the Simmons Center (800 Chisholm Trail Parkway in Duncan, Ok) with secondary venues at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center (1000 Chisholm Trail Parkway in Duncan, OK). Trail Dance begins on January 16th, 2009 at 9am with a special presentation for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students called Kid’s Fest. Kid’s Fest introduces students from Stephens County to the emerging film industry of Oklahoma. A second Kid’s Fest will also take place from 1pm-2:30pm for fourth grade students. Each group will be treated to Independent Film, Guest Filmmaker Discussions, and a Magic Show. Exhibition of films for the general audience will begin at 3pm on Friday, January 16th, 2009 and continue throughout the weekend until the Grand Awards Ceremony on Saturday, January 18th, 2009. The Awards Ceremony will recognize the films that stood out to festival judges. There is also an opportunity for the audience to vote on their favorites. Heather Langenkamp-Anderson, most well known for her roles on “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Just the 10 of Us”, will be on hand to share her experiences in the film and television industries as well as her most current position as co-owner of the renowned AFX Special Effects Studio. Other activities are planned during the weekend which includes an after party on Saturday, January 17th, 2009 from 11pm-2am featuring the music of Southbound Texas 35. On Sunday there will be a Seminar on Historical Accuracy in Costumes for Film, and a Panel Discussion on Special Effects Makeup for Film. About me:

The TRAIL DANCE FILM FESTIVAL introduces up-and-coming filmmakers from around the globe to Oklahoma's emergent film industry, and provides a welcoming forum to showcase films...all amidst a beautiful Western landscape.

Named one of 25 festivals "Worth the Entry Fee" by MovieMaker Magazine, Trail Dance offers distribution opportunities through Hastings Entertainment, Inc. Winning films are given the chance to be part of a Trail Dance DVD compilation, available at over 250 Hastings locations for one year. What's more, Hastings distribution execs often attend Festival screenings and meet with selected filmmakers.

Trail Dance concludes with a grand awards gala and reception, where custom sculpted Golden Drover Awards are presented to winning filmmakers, and one lucky high school student will be awarded a $2000 scholarship to pursue a career in filmmaking.

MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
The Trail Dance Film Festival encourages originality and creativity in film, and promotes the film industry in Oklahoma.

MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Many Trail Dance films have since received distribution, including Bill Sebastian's MIDLOTHIA, and JOHNNY WAS (the first-ever submission to Trail Dance) which was picked up by Starz. Golden Drover Award-winner Jon Sajetowski (DONNYBROOK) went on to direct ABC's "Wife Swap," and Best Actor David Lawrence (MY NAME IS WALLACE) recently booked a recurring role on NBC's "Heroes."

The event includes vendor presentations, live entertainment, seminars with film veterans, and more. New this year is the Filmmaker Luncheon, where artists are treated to a buffet-style meal with special guest presenters, and 2008 guests will include Heather Langenkamp-Anderson of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET fame. In 2007 (only its second year), Trail Dance was honored with a prestigious Redbud Award for Outstanding New Event at the Oklahoma Governors Conference on Tourism.

Who I'd like to meet:

FILMMAKERS! ACTORS! MUSICIANS! ARTISTS! YOU!

I see Ken beat me to it (Adjusted Gratuity) but thank you so much for accepting us with open arms. It was such a great weekend for us. Never in our wildest dreams did we think we'd win "Best Of Festival".

All we wanted to do is get a few butts in the seats and make some people laugh. But to take home 3 awards and have people constantly coming up to us, gushing about our film, wanting autographs, we seriously felt like Rock Stars after our screening on Saturday all the way until the end of the festival.

Because of you, I can now call myself an "Award Winning Filmmaker".

If I ever get famous I promise you that I will do everything in my power to get the word out about this festival. I plan on being back. The city was great, the venue was great, and the festival was incredible.

Thank you so much for everything,

    Jason W. Schaver
