About me: My name is Jessika Smith and I have been a resident of the Fairbanks North Star Borough for 16 years. I have been involved with many community and service organizations, and even started one when I was 13, The North Pole Extreme Leos, and together with the Rotary Club and generous community support we were able to provide a safe place for the youth of North Pole to Skateboard and BMX. I have always been ambitious and enjoy public speaking more than the average bear. A few months ago, I began telling family, friends, and associates that I was considering running for school board. The overwhelming response was, "PLEASE DO!" I have two children of my own, Trinity, age 5, and Layla, who is 3. Trinity will enter Kindergarten this year at Pearl Creek Elementary. I also love and help co-parent two older kids who are 12 and 13, entering 7th and 9th grades. I am very creative and ambitious. I am an excellent communicator and public speaker. I have close connections with students in all grade levels and feel that I would be an excellent "mediator" or "liason" between students, parents, staff and the school board. I bring with me to the ballot my experience as a parent and student in this district. I bring my open mind; my open ear. I bring the desire to shape the district into one which is empowering for all students- molding them into the leaders of tomorrow!
