A product of the streets of Buffalo, New York, Christopher O'Riley A.K.A Wassaname is quickly amassing a reputation as one of the hottest young producers in the game. After a youth in which he cultivated a passion for music, it was his introduction to hip hop that helped him realize his calling in life. "When I heard hip hop for the first time", recalls Wassaname, "I just felt in love with it and it's been my like wifey ever since. The passion and love I've always had for music made me be an artist."
As a youngster, Wassaname's exposure to various different forms of music ignited the spark that he would eventually kindle into a creative flame. Hip hop pioneers Run DMC, LL Cool J, N.W.A, EPMD, Eric B & Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, and The Beastie Boys were in constant play in his home, along with Prince and Michael Jackson.
1998 Wassaname came across a music program and fell in love with the way to make his own sound of music. As with a lot of producers in the game it all started out as a hobby. Wassaname made beat CD's for him and his friends to rap over. One day a knock at the door changed Wassaname life. The man at the door said. "You have real talent, how much you charge for tracks?" "I was floored," says Wassaname. "I just made tracks for fun and now someone asked how much for a beat?"
Possessing natural talent with regards to the composing of music, Wassaname's methods are the products of innate tendencies. "The beat making process just flows naturally," relates Wassaname. "Depending on the mood I may be in, I could just bang out a beat in less than an hour. When I listen to new, fresh music, it makes me get creative and come up with new ideas. But basically I can just sit in front of my equipment and get to work following my ears. I can pretty much say that my ears are trained with good quality classic material."
Forever giving props to his roots, Wassaname stays true to his upbringing. "I love Buffalo, Bailey is my hood! It is in me forever," states a reminiscing Wassaname. "I think it represents my character a lot, it helped me live and learn hip hop. What a lot of rappers rap about the hood I lived it In Buffalo. My city is not on the map as a big hip hop scene, but there’s a lot of untapped talent their. Thats why i will allways make music for the streets..."
"Being from Buffalo gave me more confidence as an artist. The struggle in the hood gave me the strength to want to make it in the game. The good times in the hood made me bond with different people and different situations and I think that entire experience reflects through my music."
Now living in Orlando, Florida, Wassaname is getting more love from artists than he would if he was in Buffalo, New York. "I’m not saying that everyone in Buffalo is some haters. Naw... I’m saying it’s more opportunity here in Florida cuz the south is popping off right now and its a bigger city with more people to hear my music out here."
Music is my life, says Wassaname. The game has its ups and downs but I love the high I get from making good music, I will never stop!
