Hailing from the town of Tunbridge Wells, the work of Tom Williams & The Boat is a natural progression from Tom’s solo work, with the addition of drums, bass, violins, guitars, mouth organs and pianos.
The band have earned a constantly growing fan-base through supporting bands such as The Wombats, Frank Turner, Good Books, Jack Penate, Air Traffic, Chris TT, Jeremy Warmsley, Emmy the Great, Tokyo Police Club and Laura Marling.
The band have released 4 EPs so far in since late 2007 with over 20 tracks; The Penguin EP in October 2007, The February EP in February 2008 The Got Fuel EP in August 2008, and Doing My Best EP in 2009. They have gained continued support from the BBC Kent Introducing team, as well as Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, and Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1.
In May 2008 Tom Williams & The Boat were picked by a panel of Radio 1 DJs to be one of two Kent bands to play the station's own festival 'One Big Weekend' in Mote Park, Maidstone, on the BBC Introducing Stage.
Huw Stephens has recently asked the band to come to BBC's Maida Vale Studios to record their first session for Radio 1. The band recorded their session on September 3rd in the legendary studio 4. The session was broadcast on Huw Stephens shows on BBC Radio 1 on October 15th, on his 9-10pm and 12am-2am shows.

Well, not wishing to bore you (but failing in that mission), I knew you'd do one new cover so I grabbed my video and it showed 45 minutes of tape used so I thought I had 15 minutes left to cover it. I started recording your Radiohead and the tape ran out during the introduction. :( What my stupid camera didn't show was that before the last 45 minute recording, there was a 15 minute recording. I was left with the choice of missing half the song, rewinding back over Oxygen Thief and Ben Marwood covering 'Hey Ya' at Wednesbury and annoying all those around me with camera whirr... or forgetting it. I was kicking myself - even more so when you did the Daniel Johnston too. They need to be captured so I'll nag you till I get them both again at future events. They both sounded really good though so they're worth repeating.
How am I? The medication's kicking in with bizarre side effects. I'm drifting between insomnia and hibernation and have the muscle strength of a drunk amoeba. I was woken up by a fox in my bedroom at 3am the other day. On the first floor! I really should shut the back door at night. Erm, that's not a bizarre side-effect and I possibly should have started a new paragraph there, but I didn't. :-)
