First, a little history and background…

My name is Zechariah Wise and I am a producer/ engineer/ artist/ entrepreneur/ activist. I got started in music when I was 14 years old and got my first professional gigs at 17. In 1992, I formed a group called the Lower Life Forms with DJ Dialtone. We were courted by Polydor Records and later Sony Records, and we recorded an album called, “The Whole Universe is Ours,” which ended up getting shelved. The frustration of this process prompted me to go into business for myself. In 1995, I took what little money I had and founded Depth Charge Recordings; a recording studio and independent record label designed to push my work and the work of my crew – Team Demolition. We released two promotional cassettes in 1995 and 1996 and then 12 inch singles by the Lower Life Forms and Optical the Visionary in 1997. During this same period, I opened Depth Charge Studios for business to the public. I began engineering and producing for dozens of local rap and R&B artists and eking out a modest living. One of my most notable works at that time was the original tracking and recording of the first MF Doom single on Fondle Em Records.

In 1998, my crew and I decided to do a single together for shits and grins. The A-side was entitled, “Dirty Gusto,” and the single and video took off in the college music scene and was a considerable underground success. In fact, it was successful enough to convince us to do an album together as a group. We released a second single in 1999 and a third in 2000 and finally dropped our first album, “Demolition Derby- The Wreckoning,” in 2001. The album did decently for an independent record, but not well enough to warrant an immediate follow-up. I spent the next couple of years producing and engineering for various artists including projects on Depth Charge Records by Defined Print, The Black Lung Movement, and Trickstar. I released a solo album in 2003 then decided to get back to work with my crew on a second Team Demo album. “Yo! TD Raps,” dropped in October 2004 to great critical acclaim, but not much in terms of sales.

Plenty has happened in the last couple of years. In 2005, I moved Depth Charge Studios to a new location in Alexandria, Virginia and I continue to engineer and mix for a host of great artists. I’ve been hard at work with Team Demo building a strong production resume including tracks for 50 Cent, Kingpen Slim, Obie Trice, Illa Ghee, Tom Gist, Wale, Lord Digga, MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16, MTVs “Made,” the Notorious B.I.G. documentary, “Bigger than Life,” and a remix to Eminem’s, “Jimmy Crack Corn,” Recently, I partnered with my homeboy Dirty Hands to do remixes for Jive Records; the first being Chris Brown's "Forever." Depth Charge also released Illa Ghee’s first commercially available album, “Bullet and a Bracelet,” this in October 2007, as well as a free promotional Team Demo cd featuring recent production work from a wide range of artists.
