I'm really too busy to have interests, but if I had time and money, my interests would be:
Lying on a sandy beach
running an animal sanctuary
reading books in one sitting, and seeing every good movie that came out when it came out
kissing winter goodbye forever! (I don't know if that counts as an interest..)
second-hand shopping on a global scale!
Music
I love all the jazz artists from the thirties and fourties, In the eighties, my idols were the Pretenders, I loved punk and ska, Blondie, Elvis Costello, the Clash, and more contemporarily, Feist, Arcade Fire,Fiona Apple,Bjork,P.J.Harvey, country-Dolly Parton, Lucinda Williams, Freakwater!Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, I love Canadiana!Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Jann Arden, the Tragically Hip!I love classical, Glen Gould's Goldberg Variations is another desert island pic. Cecilia Bartolli, I like Lounge stuff too,....
Movies
My favorite movie of all time is:
Some Like it Hot. Probably the best film EVER.
I love old Woody Allen movies, musicals like Cabaret, West Side Story,I loved Napoleon Dynamite, American Beauty, Casablanca, Silence of the Lambs, Thelma and Louise, anything with Susan Sarandon, or Meryl Streep. Meryl! Gosford Park, Cold Comfort Farm, ok, here's a completely obscure one, it was called Love at First Sight, with Dan Aykroyd, a canadian movie from the seventies. It is the most hilarious movie ever, if you like blind jokes. Casino, Goodfellas, The Haunting of Hill House, (the original) The Shining,Dancer in the Dark, Short Cuts, there really are too many to mention them all. I can't watch war movies, I hate sports "comedies" about some loser team, I hate the inspirational teacher movies, I loved Little Miss Sunshine, The Sixth Sense, The Others, I can't watch Slasher/Psycho movies, they are a scourge on the global psyche.
Movies that were loved by everyone but me:
Forest Gump
Chicago
Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter
Crash
Beaches!
I'm sure there are more, much more.
Television
TV shows from when I was a kid:
I Love Lucy
Bugs Bunny!
Bewitched
Get Smart
I loved Seinfeld, and Prime Suspect, and a weird BritCom called League of Gentlemen
And now:
Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Big Love, and Rescue Me
Books
The Stone Angel, by Margaret Laurence, Alias Grace, by Margaret Atwood, the Shipping News, by E. Annie Proulx, early Vonnegut! Breakfast of Champions changed my life! So many books, E.M. Forster's Passage to India, On Beauty by Zadie Smith, Cold Mountain, The Hours, early Updike, John Cheever, P.D. James, anything by David Sedaris, Jane Austen, etc. etc.
Heroes
sounds cheesy, heroes, but my girls, and my hubby are heroes to me.
About me: My name is Danette MacKay.I live in Montreal, Quebec, in Mile End, with Simon, my right hand man, my two teenaged daughters, Agee and Char, our dog Beau, and our four cats- Mr. Pickles, Earl, Betty and Gretchen. I am an actor by profession, and am the founder and emcee of Kiss My Cabaret. (www.kissmycabaret.com) I am a vegetarian with vegan aspirations, an out of control animal lover who does not believe in the supremacy of human beings. I was becoming more and more fed up with the entertainment industry, auditioning for jobs I didn't want, that I wouldn't get. The fates backed me into a corner, and demanded that I go into business for myself, and bring Vegan shoes to Montreal!Crazy but true! Come to the beautiful Arterie, and get yourself a gorgeous pair of 100% non-leather shoes, duckie!

Who I'd like to meet: David Sedaris and his sister Amy, and his boyfriend Hugh....
I actually have met alot of famous people in my lifetime, due to my line of work, so it's not such a big woop-de-doo for me as it is for some others. Most are very nice and polite and well groomed, and some are just nasty wastes of space. Just like regular non-famous people!
Most are very nice, some are more than a bit squirrelly, but mental health is such a fragile and precious thing!
