Fresh!'s Interests
|
| General | website and graphic design, Macs, technology, investing, writing/arranging/recording/performing music, photography, sports, blogging. Yeah, I'm still a big kid (lotta truth to the term "young at heart"),

My wife and two lovely children - my biggest blessings.

I've always enjoyed photography. After being convinced to model some Avirex wear (long before it became a fashion piece), I was so interested in what my cousin did, in developing the film and printing it shortly after, that I taught myself to do it also. Here are a few visions from back in the day...I only shoot now....(smile)

"...when I make records, I want to make them so that people can find a place for them in their lives. I like the idea of records that are warm and inviting." - Moby
I subscribe to that philosophy in my creativity, and thank God for allowing me the gift. Ultimately, the dedication is unto Him.
My primary instrument is guitar (electric/acoustic/MIDI)...(peace to my girls, Monica, Monique, and Racquel (my guitars ;-) )
I also play bass guitar and keyboards. Here is my sanctuary, better known as The 'Lab

Along with writing and composing, I do sampling and MIDI/drum programming. I love to infuse various sounds (common and uncommon) into my compositions via sampling (more to come in 2007). In 2003, my ex-college roommate and long time friend, Dan, and I formed After Six Productions, and are currently working on a compilation CD. I've been fortunate enough to do session work along the way, as well.
I'm enjoying the journey still.
My musical tastes lie in straight ahead jazz, contemporary jazz, R&B (mainly old skool). hip-hop (old skool), downtempo, deep house, electronica, dub, ska, breakbeat, nu jazz, trip-hop, brokenbeat ,old soul, neo-soul, ambient, classical, new world, electro, two-step, garage house, techno, reggae, rock, gospel. The music I enjoy the most (outside of jazz) is often termed eclectic by most who know me.
I've had the great opportunity record tracks on CD releases of two of the most talented artists I have personally come across. It was a sheer pleasure from start to finish and I'm happy I got the chance to share the gift He gave me in this way:

One morning in June 1991 at 8:30am, I was on my way to work. While looking for a parking space and I heard Donnie Simpson spinnin this dope tune called "Are You Free". It was a time in urban music that bands were pretty much extinct. As a listened to the cut, I knew that statement was once again false. The group is my 2nd favorite group of all time:
Mint Condition
Who is the first, my all time favorite? A band that has been around for over 25 years, internationally known and well loved. You know the singles..."Still A Friend of Mine", "Deep Waters", "Spellbound and Speechless", the remake of The Jones Girls' "Nights Over Egypt" (f/house music diva, Jocelyn Brown), and more. You know of their premier female vocalist, Maysa. This band, is headed up by a true humanitarian, visionary, and superb musician. The man is Jean Paul "Bluey" Maunick. The band is...

Short historic story on Bluey and beginnings
Jeff Lorber, master of the groove, I've been following since 1980. He is one of the most prolific keyboardists of the fusion, R&B, and smooth jazz eras. Starting with Jeff Lorber Fusion in 1979, riding through the 80's delving into R&B with hits like Facts Of Love and Step By Step, and doing tons of studio sessions with various R&B artists, giving career jumpstarts to Kenny G and Dave Koz, to writing, arranging, and performing some of the smoothest contemporary jazz pieces in history...he's been a staple and well respected artist to the industry for over 25 years. I caught one of a few times in the B'more area some years back:

Thanks for your kind and positive words. Hope peace and love
surrounds
you
always and that music continues to feed your soul.

Musicians, artists, designers, and all cool folk that grace this websphere...get at me! Note: I am far from perfect, but if your profile page (including comments) contains any references to drugs, sleaze, guns or racism you will not get added. Morals and values are the building blocks and guidelines for a society to survive and need
to be upheld. Thanks for taking the time to read this and for
visiting my page
On the add friends process: I have been on myspace for some time now...and I
really like it. The networking opportunities are tremendous. When I
signed up for a profile, it was with the sole purpose of making good friends and meet colleagues with the possibility of a future music
collaboration - which has been panning out. My experience in here is,
that everybody is being very kind and polite, which I feel generates
a mutual respect. I like that.
Then
here are people who get a kick out of adding EVERYBODY to their friends list. I don't quite share that particular passion of reaching
"THE MAGIC 10000", per se. I like being able to keep track of who I
have in my network, so please know that i'm not meaning ANY
disrespect, should I not add you upon your request. This is a BIG
space we can all enjoy...thanks much!

The enduring success of Incognito is one of the great stories of UK music
during the last 20 years. Look at the recent history of soulful UK artists
and you will find any number of short-lived acts that have achieved pop
success. Narrow the list to those that have created a uniquely British sound and that have endured as a global phenomenon on their own terms
and
the list becomes short. Dues, then, to Jean-Paul 'Bluey' Maunick and
Incognito, formed in 1980 and celebrating 25 years of positive vibes and
undiluted jazz funk in 2005.
