| Website | cowboyfilms.co.uk home-films.com | | Directors | I am of Italian origins, but lived in London for 12 years. In recent periods I have being making documentaries and this is my first drama. I wanted to tell a story in Italian merging my passion for the water as a freediver with my memories as a child growing up by the Mediterranean Sea.
Last summer I went to the Eolie Islands, a bunch of seven small volcanic islands just north of Sicily, to search for the resources to make what I had in mind. And moved around from one island to the other with a camera and note-book in my hand, listening to fishermen stories and looking for kids to cast.
I had a basic subject, but my intention was to develop the story and the dialogues together with local kids according to the boys’ natural behavior and environment. I selected 10 kids from different islands and with the help of a writer (Dario Cane’) we set up a workshop and then cast two kids, Andrea Puglisi and Felice Puglisi, to play in the film.
We shot the film in Marina Corta, a small fishermen harbor in Lipari. Since centuries most of the family living in Marina Corta are fishermen and pass they craft through generation into generation. They live and die for the sea.
A’Mare is a film in Sicilian dialect and with non-professional actors.
