About me:
I'm a 24 year old drum n bass DJ from Bradford, West Yorkshire.
I've been DJing Drum n Bass and Jungle for a good few years now and in this time, i've had the opportunity to play at various nights in and around West Yorkshire. These include Breadbinz (Bradford), Depthcutz (Halifax), Central Beatz (Leeds), R:evolve (Bradford/Leeds)Inertia (Huddersfield, my hometown)as well as many other events throughout West Yorkshire. Since November 2006, I have been representing the Drum n Bass scene in the North every Saturday evening on the 'Mighty' Frequency 88.1fm. (www.leedsdrumandbass.co.uk) The leading station for Drum n Bass music in the North of England!! This has been a massive opportunity for me and has been a platform for helping me showcase my sound to a much larger audience of listeners. My show, "Future Sessions," (every Saturday 9-11pm) is fast becoming the only way to spend a Saturday evening for many listeners.
Aswell as being a DJ, I also produce beats. This is something that i'm staggeringly passionate about and production is what I'm going to concentrate on this year. Producers like Tech Itch, Breakage and Equinox inspire me more than anyone else. Making music is something i've craved to be able to do since i can remember and growing up in a household filled with musicians and singers.... I suppose some would say it's merely a natural progression. Either way, i'm focused and i know what i'm aiming for. Some day soon i'll be ready to unleash my creations upon the world..... but not just yet. Keep this page bookmarked! :)
Interests
Apart from music, most things in this world simply don't interest me in the slightest. I am however, very much into foreign films. I'm a big fan of French, Japanese and Korean cinema. I find these films to have an accute lack of the pretentiousness you often find slapped all over most Hollywood productions. I'm starting to accumulate quite an impressive selection of Asia Extreme DVD's which i'm very proud of. Check out Visitor Q (Miike Takashi), Oldboy (Park Chan Wook), Brother (Takashi Kitano), Battle Royale (Kenji Fukasaku) and Irreversible (Gaspar Noe). Guaranteed, any one of these films will completely change the way you view modern cinema. Watch one and send me an email to let me know what you think.
Books are a bit harder to recommend than films. It takes a little more to read a full book than to watch a film but i would recommend 3. The wind up bird chronicle (Haruki Murakami), In the Miso Soup (Ryu Murakami) and finally Only forward (Michael Marshall Smith)
Music
Drum and bass has taken over my life completely and inspires me more than anything else I hear, but at the same time, hip hop is my first love without a doubt, but, over the last decade or so, i've watched hip hop stagnate and become a laughable commodity among the genres. In its defence however, there are still some exceptionally talented MCs out there both in the U.S. and on our own British shores aswell. People who have got more to talk about than the size of their rims and the hoes in their friggin' jacuzzi. For examples of what i call "Real Hip Hop", check out British MC's like Jehst, Chester P & Farmer G (Taskforce), Klasnekoff, Roots Manuva, Lewis Parker (The mans production is second to none). On the U.S. front you have to look a little harder cos there's so much drivel out there but try looking for mans like Immortal Technique, Little Brother, Vast aire, Jean Grae and look for virtually any beat produced by El-P. You're guaranteed to find some fresh beats and rhymes there.
Who I'd like to meet: Any producers and DJ's who are 'passionate' about what they do and the music they make or play. I believe there's a lot i could learn from you all and possibly vice versa.
Oh yeah, and females!! Hahaha.
