Not since I saw the spellbinding docudrama “March of the Penguins” have I witnessed such a seasonal migration of natural sisterhood. A new generation of drag talent is rising up from the IE to Long Beach in hopes of hitting one of the many Monday night stages in WeHo. Others are already racking up votes online to be considered for season 2 of “Rupaul’s Drag Race.”
So far, I have received requests from a diverse group including Mercedes Electra, Lady K., Vaginal Hood, and Isha Cypress. I am planning a special set with these ambitious ladies on May 18th when season 1 diva Shannel hits the stage at here lounge’s SASSY Show. It will be LA’s first chance to see the Vegas showgirl and perhaps some of next winter’s new batch of famous faces.
SPOTTED: Detox hitting the stage at VIP in Riverside while her sister, the aptly named Rehab, was visiting her sibling… Junior debutante Shangela delivering another tour de force performance at Sobar Sundays the first Sunday of each month at here lounge.
Next month the AA crowd parties with special guest Leslie Jordan of “Sordid Lives” fame—hope he brings out a little Tammy for these troubled times…
Raja and Eddie Debarr mixing it up at Mustache Mondays with DJ Josh Peace for the downtown drags and club kids Monday nights…
Kay Sedia hosting a packed Tupper Ware party at the Noble House home of Momma in the 818…
DJ Draven Josh paying twisted homage to RAGE’s Dreamgirls Revue emcee and Tigerheat diva Ingenue with a highy revisionist Supertramp album cover plastered all over the Facebook spiderweb…
Cha Cha Cache Drag Idol winner at Oasis in early May one night and debuting as hostess at SASSY the next–girl’s on a roll!
Birthday alerts galore from here lounge: SASSY celebrates Isha Cypress on May 18th, Detox on June 1st, Athena on June 8th, Venezuela on June 29, and Victoria X on July 6th. Aarayah Sunshine is headed back to LA after being MIA all spring…
Tammie Brown is making a special appearance at Jer Ber Jones special event Telekinesis at Casita del Campo May 8 and 9th…
Chico’s Angels are heading to NYC on Memorial Day for the start of a busy summer—follow their crimes and adventures online at www.ChicosAngels.com…
I want to give a big shout out to the not so poisonous pen of Jackie Beat who wrote a sensational appreciation of the late Bea Arthur—you can follow La Beat online at www.JackieBeatRules.com or read her in the new Frontiers/IN LA.
Everyone in the drag community is sending love and well wishes to our own Chi Chi LaRue, who had some scary surgery side effects and is resting up before returning to directing, DJing and generally ruling the world.
Finally, one of my heroes of hip and all things pop culture, the divine Miss CoCo Peru is doing her three-show, one woman retrospective all May at The Village. This is your last chance to see her walk down memory lane and revisit her past stories, sketches and vignettes. You won’t see a more entertaining show all year! Follow CoCo on www.MissCoCo.com.

Drag took a decidedly southern swerve this past Monday at here lounge where the much-loved Boofant Sistrs & Delta Work headlined Southern Fried Sassy. Joining the hoedown were co-hostesses Beignet au Lait (who went from “Fancy” to Katrina to Louisiana) & Ingenue ( a revisionist Tammy Wynette) along with Megan Brooks (who did a mean Gretchen Wilson), Kellie Pickler impersonator Venezuela, and the lovable Blaire von Bitchbag of Hamburger Mary’s channeling her inner Minnie Pearl. SIZE spokesmodels Joe & Keith joined me for a couple of air guitar sets as Loretta Lynn with supreme divas Selena & Aarayah Sunshine on backup. Photos from the special event are online at www.MichaelJosephPhotography.com in the event galleries section. After so many weeks of Britney’s & Beyonce’s this was a nice change of pace for Mondays in WeHo. Our next country night is coming up in late March with Lorayne Love, Morgan, Dina Martinez, and Delta Work among others. Delta’s Dreamgirls Revue co-star Chad Michaels, currently profiled in the new issue of Frontiers, is shooting a guest spot on NBC’s “Kath & Kim” show to air this winter. The Miss Sin City Pagaent will be welcoming none other than Dina Martinez and some of Weho’s most desired male dancers including supercouple Benn & Alex, Ben Roman, and a truckload of friends and supporters as she continues her quest for the crown. You can come and cheer on Dina this Monday as she hosts her all-star show with dueling Tina Turner’s Jasmine Masters & Tammie Brown, the return of Lady K. & Lady X-Tina and a special set by Irene Soderberg among others. Info is available at www.DinaMartinez.com. Raven & Lorayne will be headlining all month for the SASSY Show’s “Love is in the Air” campaign this February. Guests include power couple Dominique & Safire, Cha Cha Chalez, Bar Wars breakthrough Shangela, and a special Oscar’s show starring Barbie Q., Venezuela, Holly Day, Sparkle Stone and Isha Cypress. The Bar Wars follies return February 2 with Lorayne as host and will now offer three cash prizes to our winners instead of just one. Cheers to Fiesta Cantina hunk Brian Schulze who reclaimed the top spot at January Bar Wars along with his band of Britney dancers. Best of luck to all ten of the gals up for the Outstanding Drag Diva award and the fierce foursome of Tammie Brown, Morgan, Lorayne Love, and Raven who are classing up this year’s list of Outstanding Entertainers!

The trick is to stay focused on what you want to happen and let go of what you do not... cuz if you keep seeing things as they are, convincing yourself that you "have to" because that's reality, then it will always be your reality. want to change? it's as simple as changing the who, what, how, why and when of what you look at and FOCUS on... DAILY :)
Tankism #25 Have a great week :) PS: see if you can "see" the picture below. It's pretty cool...
