Sounds Like
I have been influenced by Blues, Rock, Metal, Classical, Swing, Jazz, and Funk. There is no way for me to sound like anyone except ME.
All in all, I try and combine the influences of all those around me. Music is art, and art is about creativity.
I began playing guitar at 14 years old. Within a few short months I was playing with a few of the other guysand within a year, without my parents knowledge, the little band that formed was making trips out of town. We played for thousands of people, in many different venues. We also had the opportunity to open for several bands. Bands that I had never dreamed of working with at that age.
That lifestyle was short lived. I believe we could have gone the distance in the music world, but I experienced a life change that opened my eyes to things greater, and more powerful than music, liquor, girls, and money. At the age of 19 I gave my life to Christ. I became a Christian and left everything I had worked 4.5 years to build.
I was out of the music scene altogether. When I surrendered my life to Christ, the last thing I wanted to do was fall back into a life that was about me. I quit. In fact, I didn't own a single guitar for years. It wasn't until a young lady I was dating (I married that same girl) gave me an accoustic guitar one year for Christmas that I strummed a chord.
I began playing little by little again, but it was nothing serious. I would just make noise. I don't think I played an entire song through. I would run a couple scales, or play a few riffs here and there.
Allow me to fast-forward a few more years:
After 6 years of not playing, I got the bug again. I wasn't really interested in the guitar though. I watched a video of Victor Wooten as he played "Amazing Grace" and immediately wanted to do that song. You can find the song here:
From that moment on, it's been about the low end of music for me. I went from playing lead and being in front, to playing bass and sitting on the back row. I just wanted to thump out a groove.
Oh, there was a reason for my new found love for music that goes beyond Victor Wooten playing a song. I began to see a way to praise God, and to reach people through something that I used to run from God with. Shortly after this God began to place many, many Christian artists into my life.
Music for me has been a hobby until now. I simply enjoyed playing the notes and painting a picture with the sounds. Recently God inspired me to take my playing to another level that reaches beyong my living room and my community. God gave me the talent, the equipment, and now a desire to use music. This is a leap of faith for me, but it's a faith in God, not in myself. Keep checking back to see what I am doing. I will be as amazed as you will.
We will be in lineville alabama. it is on our dates on the website. I don't think it says anything about them on the date though. Let me know and I will get you exact address and such.
