Interests

  • General

    Facts and Whatnot:
First and foremost, photography and filmmaking are my number-one passions. They're what I want to do the rest of my life. In no particular order, here is a somewhat abortive effort at naming other things that distinguish me from any other shlub around town:

    • I like to play chess and the guitar.

    • My name in Hangul (Korean writing) is 에런.

    • I have a penchant for Rube Goldberg devices.

    • I am constantly coining portmanteaus like "Cornjina" and "Beefgasm"...

    • ...as well as retronyms like "Wet Humping."

    • I am often very childish -- see above two.

    • Kettle One vodka. 'Nuff said.

    • The Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Detroit Red Wings, and New York Rangers are my favorite sports teams.

    • I truly believe that time travel, superstring theory, and quantum physics are great Sunday afternoon recreational topics of intrigue and activity -- unless one of the aforementioned sports teams are playing.

    • I have received the Heimlich Maneuver twice.

    • I have lucid dreams from time to time.

    • I can not live without comic books, super heroes, independent film and music, unique t-shirts, hats, and frequent political / religious discussions.

    • I collect vintage Mego World's Greatest Super Heroes action figures from the 1970s. Seriously. They're wicked cool... you know, for dollies.

    My Muse(s):
The things I've done with the people I've met over the years are what move me and make my perspective unique. My past was not just prelude to what has come, but it sculpted who I am today and it guides what I plan to do tomorrow. But hell, that's as vague as an astrological horoscope.

Unoriginal artistic statement aside, there are more specific (granted, trivial) things that act as my muse: science, subversive counter-culture, American capitalism, comic books, music, television, sex, violence, rock and roll, hip-hop, fads, trends, staple ideologies, revolution, conformity, magic, bottled water, male bonding, digital media, pornography, the smell of plastic, prime numbers, colorblindness, clean socks, Coca Cola and Flaming Hot Cheetos.
Also, Jesus. Ha! Just kidding. Oh, religion...

About me:

Who, What, & Whereabouts:
I'm currently an ESL teacher in the Juyeop Dong (neighborhood) of the Ilsan Gu (district) of Goyang Si (city) in the Gyeonggi Do (province) of South Korea. Wow, that's a mouthful! I moved out here in May of 2008 with my sweetheart and I love it. It's a crazy adventure everyday.

I like to play chess and the guitar. I write a bit in a small black journal where I collect randomness: thoughts, quotes I hear or happen across, haiku (although I don't consider it poetry), and anything I think is worth recording for reflection or inspiration. I don't smoke. I do drink -- socially. If you can make a solid Ketal One Gimlet, I'll be the best tipper you see all night. I'm generally a nice guy; well mannered, a bit egotistical, but still a good friend and listener.

Whys & Whens:
I set this site up to showcase some of my photographic and film / video work I've created, and as a place to network with other photographers, filmmakers, festivals, fans and friends.

I'm currently designing a website for my upcoming photography business, journaling my Korean experiences for a book I'd like to publish after I get back home, and having the adventure of a lifetime in Korea with the love of my life, Shannon. Look for us in June 2009!

You can view the Toymation films (How Superman Got His Groove Back, Poker Night, and the trailer for Hulk Smash Everybody) I made with my best-friend Mike Wytrykus in the late 1990s / early 2000s over at Rabid Mongoose Productions and comment them on YouTube.

This is my film "The Love Within" that MySpace removed:

Check out the rest of my short films on my YouTube Channel.

"Home Movies" ties with "Futurama" as the one of the best animated TV series ever. Check out seasons 1 - 4 of both sometime. Seriously, they're genius.

Which 'Home Movies' character are you?

Here's my Meez! Go Red Wings!

Who I'd like to meet:

Living:
Photographers, filmmakers, musicians, performers and artists of all forms -- also someone with a peg-leg or funny mustache.

Dead -- If I Could Travel Back in Time:
Basically I would like to meet everyone Bill and Ted visited in their Excellent Adventure. Plus I'd like to trace my family tree back as far as possible. Maybe I would stop by Chicago in 1907 and 1908 so I could experience what a Cubs World Series win felt like.

Rain turns down date with Megan Fox
Can it really be true? Apparently, the Korean star rejected every man’s fantasy girl Megan Fox.

Inquirer reported that the Foxy Transformers actress asked Rain out for a date a number of times through her agent when she was in Korea on June 9…and Rain shot down her requests. He showed no interest whatsoever in the sexy lady’s advances.
