Aaron is a Cork based songwriter and performer originally from Drogheda, Co. Louth and is now based in Cork. He has played sold-out shows in The Triskeel, The Everyman Palace Theatre and The Opera House in Cork. In Summer 2009 he will be appearing at the World Music Festival in Dun Laoghaire, the Electric Picnic and The Venue, McHughs, Drogheda to name but a few.
In the past few years he has lived, worked as a volunteer and performed in as far off places as Brazil, Sri Lanka, Paraguay, Tanzania, The US and Australia. His short European tour in 2005 earned me rave reviews from the European music press
He has performed on Meteor award winning Mick Flannery’s debut album ‘Evening Train’ and has played support slots at many of his live shows. He has also supported established acts such as Joan Armatrading, Iron and Wine and former members of venerated Irish folk legends Planxty. (Andy Irvine, Johnny Moynihan)
His debut album ‘Brown Envelope’ released in May 2008 has been described as a rootsy mix of traditional and urban folk with strong melodies and thought provoking lyrics. It is currently selling well thanks to steady rotation on RTE Radio One.
Feedback from his live shows has been fantastic and his style of performing along with his unique stagecraft and delivery, have been widely praised.
He is currently writing new material and reaction so far has been great. Check out footage from his gigs on YouTube or My Space
Here are some reviews for ‘Brown Envelope’ and the live performances.
“Dillon has produced a debut of surprising maturity and depth”
“As suggested by the title he’s not afraid to nail hypocrisy and deceit. Brown Envelope is a revelation …. Offering the sort of profoundly arresting insights we thought died with … Guthrie and Dylan”
“A performer with a flare for tune and an ear for the poetic”
“Songs of fear, loss, Religion, Injustice, love, protest, anger and joy. And the voice, poetic flair, melodic sensitivity and lyrical audacity to deliver all those emotions. The music skates on the fringes of numerous genres, folk, rock, bluegrass, pop and blues”
“A writer who writes on subjects that other writers wouldn’t dare, with an abundance of poetic flare, humour and sensitivity to back it up”
“The guitar interplay between Aaron and Dave Hackett is fantastic and a joy to watch live”
