Background Music
"Estrangement" by Aaron Lawry. Work in progress. Msg me for more information.
Autobiography
During recent years, songwriters have reduced the piano to a gentle instrument against a folksy palette of wispy vocals. Aaron Lawry is a singing pianist quite different than mellow folk, soul, rock singers you hear on the radio. He melds warm, baritone vocals with heavy beats and polished piano licks (no piano samples, here!).
He began studying Classical voice, viola, piano, dance, and music composition during his childhood. His studio instructor at the San Francisco Conservatory was the first person to encourage songwriting. They analyzed the song cycles of Kurt Wiel, Erik Satie, and Samuel Barber.
Aaron began collaborating with Nestor Santurio at Sound Forever Music in South Beach in 2006. After several pitchers of sangria, they transformed his music into electro-pop.This has drawn his perception of the piano into a new dimension, circumventing stereotypical piano song genres.
Aaron was recently awarded a fellowship from the Columbia University Institute of Religion, Culture and Public Life. He commutes to Reykjavik, Iceland where he will research soundspace: the boundaries between architecture, music and technology.
Such interests support Aaron's perspectives as an ultra-relativist who emphasizes the importance of studying all music / sound. This fearless attitude creates fresh concepts for your aural pleasure.
