Here are some of the people who make me think differently about music:
Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, The Beatles, Paul Simon, Nick Drake, Joanna Newsom, Elvis Costello, Ornette Coleman, Leonard Cohen, The Decemberists, Jens Lekman, Bill Evans, Joni Mitchell, Andrew Hill, Elliott Smith, Okkervil River, Thelonious Monk, Jose Gonzalez, Sufjan Stevens, Devendra Banhart, John Coltrane, Bright Eyes, Feist, Ryan Adams.
Of course there are probably another 700 more but I can't think of them at the moment.
Sounds Like
Old cats: Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen
I'm Aaron Wrixon, a singer and songwriter from Burlington, a little city with growing pains just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
I write songs that a journalist friend of mine calls "concise, countrified pop ditties." Essentially, that means acoustic music with a bit of twang in it.
But I like to call what I do "Sunday morning music". Basically, I spend most of my week grinding it out at my day job. Friday nights I'm exhausted. Saturday mornings I break out the lawnmower and the toolbox. Saturday afternoons are for heading out with the wife and daughter to Canadian Tire or Home Depot or wherever the hell it is I have to go but don't want to. Ditto Sunday afternoons, except then we're talking the grocery store and probably the laundry room.
Do you see what I'm getting at? Sunday morning is the time when you get to relax. Have a cup of coffee. Wake up slowly. Put on some honest music and have a good time.
You dig? Sunday morning music.
Enjoy the songs, and please get in touch if you're Sunday morning people.
Hey Aaron, Just wanted to stop by and say Hello. Hope everything is going well for you buddy. I am playing a show in Burlington APril 8th, its at the Legendary Red Rooster. It would be awesome if you could make it out. Take care Aaron.
A belated happy new year my friend. My family in Canada tell me it's been a cold one. Hope this new year brings you some good creative stuff - the feckless ones are log-jammed into too much busyness right now...cest la viv, as they say in Brigadoon. Cheers fb
Sorry it has taken me a long time to write to you. Hope life is filling your heart with good things. It looks like I could be in your part of the world next year. Let me know places we should play in your town. Your always welcome in Byron Bay Australia. Talk to you soon and hope the new year is full of magic. love elena
Happy New Year, Aaron! May 2008 be a fruitful year for you and your music! I'll have to catch your live show sometime soon, let me know when you're playing next. Cheers!
