The band began in 1993.
A project that was assembled by chance.
The original lineup came together due to 2 bands that were coming to a close.
Detroit Legends, HALLOWEEN, had come to the decision of taking an “extended” break after 10 years of recording and touring.
At the same time, the downriver based CRUCIFIED NATION had just parted ways with their vocalist and guitarist after releasing an amazing debut record.
The core members of each of these groups were far from done with creating music however. And with the intervention of common friends, a plan was put into place to develop a “Side Project” that featured the best of both acts.
These friends brought BRIAN THOMAS (Halloween) to a rehearsal house for a jam session with SHAWN MOORE, MIKE GROSS & BRIAN GERMAIN (Crucified Nation).
Instead of a jam session they ended up writing 2 full songs and came to the decision to form a NEW band.
They brought on GEORGE NEAL (Halloween) to complete the lineup, and proceeded to write a huge number of songs in a very short amount of time.
The energy between the five members was contagious, and everyone that had been lucky enough to witness the early rehearsals knew something special was happening.
There are numerous theories to how the name was chosen, but that is left for each of the original members to translate their memories of that time.
Shows were booked, clubs were packed and it was an amazing summer.
It came to a temporary close in 1995, as Halloween were offered the chance to pick up where they had left off in ‘93.
Shawn, Mike and Brian made the decision to put Abandon “to bed”, rather then to fill the positions left by Brian and George.
It would be 5 years before Abandon was resurrected.
From 2000 until 2007 the band forged ahead, with numerous lineup changes throughout.
But with each new lineup came a renewed sense of urgency.
And each lineup brought a new hunger and passion.
You can hear it in the recordings that followed.
From the Punk tinged songs on the first full length release, Strength to the amazing progressive power metal styling’s on the bands last CD,Caged Aggression.
They brought an attitude that just bled through with the blue collar roots that ran through the bands veins. They were the physical and musical embodiment of Detroit.
The band members past and present are determined that Caged Aggression will see the light of day before the end of 2009.
It is a TRUE and ULTIMATE representation of the band at it’s peak.
