ABATES Goals Are:
To print newsletters to keep motorcyclists informed on upcoming and pending legislation pertaining to motorcycles and riders, motorcycle related functions, party's, etc., in Michigan and around the country.
To motivate bikers and inform them in how to communicate with their legislators and get them involved in the legislative process.
To promote safety and education ALONG with promoting MOTORCYCLING.
To become a powerful and viable political force in legislative matters cincerning the motorcycle rider.
This 12-minute edit of the video in the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) Guide to Group Riding Kit explains riding formations, pre-ride meetings, hand signals, and more.
This is a question that many ABATE members, let alone the genreral public, find hard to answer. The letters--ABATE-- are an "acronym" for two diferent ststments. To some they stand for "American Bikers Aiming Toward Education." To others of us, they stand for "A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactment's." THe first definition sounds less "Radical" and is less intinidating to some, while the second is more what the serious street rider is interested in. ABATE is actually Both of these and more.
ABATE of Michigan is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rights and promoting the safe operating practices of Michigan motorcyclists.
ABATE of Michigan is a "freedom of Choice" organization, believing that the rider is best able to decide the type of motorcycle to ride, and the type and extent of safety gear worn.
ABATE of Michigan is Motorcyclists, from all walks of life, coming together to work for realistic legislation: to insure safety and freedom of out public roads; to promote motorcycle awareness to the general public; to promote motorcycling in general; and to insure that motorcycles are here to stay as an alternate mode of transportation.
ABATE of Michigan enables you to become educated both politically and in safe riding practices. Through public forums, writing letters and meeting elected representatives, ABATE of Michigan members have the opportunity to speak their side of the issues and educate others on the needs of Michigan motorcyclists.
To understand what ABATE is and what ABATE is trying to accomplish, simply look at the two meanings. A BROTHERHOOD
Bond between brothers. Persons joined with common aims or beliefs. Associated of same. AGAINST In opposition to or defenses directly from. TOTALITARIAN Of or pertaining to a centralized government in which neither tolerance nor recognition is granted to parties with differing opinions. ENACTMENT Pass a bill giving it validity as law, make into a law, decree. AMERICAN Anyone naturalized or born in the USA. Bikers Anyone who operates a motorcycle in a serious manner. AIMING To point in a particular direction. To have a purpose. Purpose or Design. TOWARD Regarding, with respect to. In the direction of. Designed to achieve. EDUCATION The act of educating, teaching or training. Impart knowledge.
Who I'd like to meet:
Every motorcycle rider in the state of Michigan. Everyone of you should be a member of A.B.A.T.E. and be fighting for you rights and freedoms. What if your Government proposed to:
Limit horsepower to LESS than 30 HP?
Limit displacement to LESS than 1000cc's?
Limit the PUBLIC areas where you could ride?
Limit the HOURS that you could ride?
ELIMINATE modified motorcycles?
Mandate a "lights-on" law for motorcycles?
Mandate the wearing of REFLECTORIZED vests?
Mandate "Crash Bars" for motorcycles?
BAN MOTORCYCLES
Some of these items have been proposed in Michigan and have been stopped by ABATE. All of these have been proposed somewhere in the United States. Here's Why You Should Join NOW What can YOU do? Join and support ABATE of Michigan, Let's get together in mass so that our voice means something - so it has the weight and strength of organization dedicated to "FREEDOM OF THE ROAD." You, as an individual, can help us in our fight to repeal or amend anti-motorcycle legislation in michigan and promote motorcycling. ABATE of Michigan offers you activities and the brotherhood of fellow motorcyclists. ABATE og Michigan fights for the rights of ALL motorcyclist to ensure that we and our children will be able to enjoy the freedoms we hold so dear. Let's face it, the people who are making the laws are people who know little or nothing about motorcycles. We must unite in common endeavor and sufficient numbers to be heard in every part of this state. We must educate the lawmakers from a position of strenght and in a professional, dignified manner. ABATE of Michigan is open to everyone 18 years or older having an interset in preserving personal freedoms and sharing our goals. Owning a motorcycle in not necessary. Educate - Don't Legislate - Motorcycle Safety
Education is the ABATE alternative.
Educate new riders on proper riding techniques.
Educate seasonded riders on newer or safer rideing techniques
Educate the non-riding public to be AWARE of motorcycle riders
Educate the State Legislature on sound motorcycle legislation.
Promote Motorcycle Licensing.
Promote the Ride Straight Alcohol Awareness Program sponsored by the American Motorcycle Association.
