About me: Aleister Crowley remains a controversial figure. He was
reseurrected from obscurity by the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and
Ozzy Osbourne. Crowley born is 1875 became an accomplished
mountain climber, world traveller, writer, poet,painter and
socialized in Bohemian circles. "Abbey of Thelema" is tackling
the most controversial part of Crowley's life, beginning in New
York as a painter and meeting Leah Hirzig. The Abbey, founded
in Sicily in 1920, was a forerunner of hippie communities with it's
experimentation of drugs and sexuality. With a media campaign
launched (who named Crowley "the Englishman we'd like to
hang" and "the wickedest man on Earth"), and Mussolini's
abolishing secret societys (from Mafia to occult ones),Crowley
was deported in 1923. Crowley remained mainly in Europe until
his Great Feast (Death) December 1st, 1947.
